That's very amusinginteresting. It certainly seems correct in some matters, and candles would indeed contain edible fats - better than eating books, which was done during at least one famine.

amusing read, not unlike another traveller around the same time who claimed all sorts of things. Third traveller on the other hand claimed others.. and honestly from reading the two I've read it seems to be a matter of who their guide was and how much they tried to understand of the culture. If you come to a foreign country set to look at them with certain eyes well that's what you'll see.

Icelanders have always loved to mess with foreigners :P We still offer them raw fish and meat and also sour and spoiled. Doesn't mean that's all we eat *snickers*
