Lowe's was my best friend today. They had plant clearance and we got sooo much stuff for under $20. We thought we were done planting except for window boxes, but it looks like we have lots to get in the ground-- lavendar, calla lilies (actually we're putting these in a ceramic container and setting them down in our natural spring), butterfly bush ( Read more... )

Heee, say "hi" to the Rollie Collies for me. (WP is my old stomping grounds. If you get a chance, BE SURE to go to the Tiffany Glass Art Museum, about ten blocks north of the college.

Good places to eat? Get on 17-92 and head south to Little Viet Nam and pick a restaurant, any restaurant.

The Mills (right next to the college itself) is expensive but quite yummy. If you like BBQ, I'd suggest finding the WP version of O'Boys, and drown yourself in your bucket o' sweetea, with an appetizer of fried okra and any meat you want (go between 1:00 - 4:00 to get the good specials).

Thanks for the recs! I'll actually be staying on campus in one of the small apartments so that should be a treat (oh, the joys of a college dorm mattress!). My colleague, who is the director of the teaching workshop, loves Rollins and refused to move the workshop to our college when she took over the director-ship because she loves it so much. I look forward to seeing what the hoopla is about :)

Winter Park is a lovely place. My ex-boyfriend lived just a few miles south on 17-92; so I got to hang out there a lot (used to know a lot of people who went there - and the Winter Park Art Festival is just about to die for).

Hello! How are you!

Nothing like a plant bargain.

Hi hi!

Amazing bargains. 13 plants for under $20! Nothing we got even looks that far gone (we had to pick through a lot though) and I'm confident we'll be able to bring it all back to glory. I'm such a newbie gardener, but I do take pride when we manage not to kill something- ha!

Wow, that is fantastic.

I am ashamed to admit I just spent 20 dollars on a single plant the other day (which is not my norm. But it was a plant I really wanted since two years ago.)

Misshed you! :D

Oh, I am so jealous of your gardening. Ours is all scraggly, but I just can't get to it right now. At least the peonies and climbing rose consent to bloom without my intervention!

Are there ever any workshops or conferences in my neck of the woods? You should come up some time!

:)

I have a peony with a single bloom that's already done, and several roses that I don't know what to do with, so I'm hardly a gardening maven!

If there ever is a conference in your area, I will definitely be going so we can meet up and dork out in person.

If this is the first year for the peony, don't worry, they put out so many more blooms the following years!

!!! I've created a monster with two heads!! I'm so happy to hear about all of your plants, and I bet you cannot waaaaaaaaait to get that paper done.

1. I want pictures of the spring, etc. whenever you're able to get plantings done
2. I want you to RELAX when you finish your paper, if only for one night.
3. I LOVE YOU, cookie pants.

You have! We are insane.

I'm so close to getting this paper done, so of course, because I'm close, I didn't go in and work on it today. I suck.

I will definitely take pictures. I LOVE YOU TOO!
