A friend of mine is a PhD in film studies, and his degree was based in the English department, with some interviews done at the MLA Conference. I'm not sure if that's the norm, but it might be a good place to start!
Positions are also advertised in the New York Times Education section and Inside Higher Education.
conferences for media and film studies include the large Popular Culture Association and the smaller, regional PCAs. Also, if the media/film person has some background in one of the social sciences, they can also present in relevant conferences. For example, someone active in the sociology end of media/film studies might present at the ASA/regional sociological conferences, as well.
I'm looking forward to experiencing a new conference.
Mr. Maren is actually from St. Louis and we lived there for a year, but you know, I've never been in the Arch. Maybe this is the opportunity to do that!
I'm good but I'm feeling the sadness of losing touch with my online friends and hobby, I have to tell you. I've reached a point where I feel really guilty for spending time online (or even watching television) when I should be working. So I do none of it-- it's the worst of the worst. I need a therapist ;)
How are you? Is everything ok in your neck of the woods?

That is great information- thank you!
I'm submitting a proposal to present at PCA/ACA in St. Louis in March :)

St. Louis is really neat; if you can, check out the Arch, the court house where the Dred Scott Decision was effected, and the Galleria mall.

When work calms done, I wil be waiting for your triumphant return to LJ.

I'm a little intimidated by the idea of a triumphant return, though. I'll have to put some thought into how I might return with flair.
