I got a Social Security "statement" in the mail yesterday. It basically tells me how much I'm going to get when I retire if everything stays the same. However, anyone with half a brain knows that it won't stay the same and it will run out of money before I ever see a dime. It's got stuff in bold and asterisks all over the place saying that by

the point of social security isn't for us to put the money away for ourselves. I think it's important, and socially responsible for us to take care of the old farts of our country... but only if they're not rich enough to do it on their own. It should be treated like a welfare payout. its important to have programs like that in place, even if we know that its just money down the drain for us.
We're never going to see the money again. The only thing I don't like is that my money is going to people that could already afford to support themselves.
