"Look forward to behaving aristocratically without any outward proofs of your aristocracy. Look forward to having nothing but the dignity and intelligence and tenderness that God gave you- look forward to taking those materials and nothing else, and making something exquisite with them."

I've never read Kurt, mainly because EVERYONE AND THEIR MOTHER AT ART SCHOOL reads him and Chuck and they're all obsessed with Andy Warhol. It's the trinity of art school, fer srs. So I got jaded and rejected all three of them but that quote is lovely. What context is it in?

NOOOOOOOOO! I can see you shunning Andy Warhol and Chuck [though I have read two of his books and kind of enjoyed it? Idk, they're okay, but he is not a literary genius], but Vonnegut is too good to be lumped into that category. :( It's sad that a lot of people compare him and Chuck, though, because Vonnegut is SO MUCH BETTER.

Er, long story short, this lady's husband knows her future [srsly, it makes more sense in the book] and after she loses everything to a fallen stock market, she gets angry at him because he doesn't look very upset about it. And then he says that. :)

OIC. And thank you. I totally trust you when it comes to literary taste so...I'll try Vonnegut? Once I get through my massive book list for this year. Gah.
