Last night I got at least a minor brainstorm about what I might do in the way of Livejournal posts.  I have all these characters sitting around in my head from various venues -- a number of them more than one -- and i thought it might be fun to introduce them to people.

However, I know already that some (if not all) of the resultant posts will be ( Read more... )

How are you trying to do cuts?

You should be able to use this:

< lj-cut >

before any text you'd like to hide. Except there would be no spaces between the < and the lj-cut in the real thing. That will give you the standard cut message. If you want custom text in your cut tag, you can do this:

< lj-cut text="Whatever I want my cut tag to read." >

Either of those will cut everything from the tag on down. If you only want to cut the middle of a post, you can close the cut with

< /lj-cut >

(Again, you'd want to remove the spaces between the angle brackets and the tag on the real thing.) Anything after this should show up uncut.

Thanks, Barb! I was a) trying to use the icons in the format line and b) trying to do this as an edit to a previously posted message, so no wonder I wasn't getting on too well.

There are also 3rd party LJ posting programs that make it easier as well - Deepest Sender for Firefox and Semagic are ones I've used.
