Last night I got at least a minor brainstorm about what I might do in the way of Livejournal posts. I have all these characters sitting around in my head from various venues -- a number of them more than one -- and i thought it might be fun to introduce them to people.

You should be able to use this:
< lj-cut >
before any text you'd like to hide. Except there would be no spaces between the < and the lj-cut in the real thing. That will give you the standard cut message. If you want custom text in your cut tag, you can do this:
< lj-cut text="Whatever I want my cut tag to read." >
Either of those will cut everything from the tag on down. If you only want to cut the middle of a post, you can close the cut with
< /lj-cut >
(Again, you'd want to remove the spaces between the angle brackets and the tag on the real thing.) Anything after this should show up uncut.
