I've been reciting Psalm 48 (in its entirety) and verses 5 through 13 of Psalm 104 as I sand out all the pitting and corrosion (over and over again, almost like a mantra -- very crude, very "brute force," from a technical perspective, but it does bring the literal meaning of the word "

Are you really worried that you're not doing a traditionally Mars-specific consecration? This could be handled as simply as creating an infusion in oil of a Mars-ruled botanical (lots of options here - peppers, basil, nettle, thistle, tobacco) and anointing the spike with it, and then suffumigating it with a Mars incense such as dragon's blood when you do the consecration. Actual blood could be used, I doubt Mars would complain. Perhaps tell the tool what it's been created to do in plain language once it's been "born," since he's dangerous and needs to be informed of the limits within which he must operate. Mars favors the direct approach, and being explicit is good. Mars will NOT care that you weren't being fancy. I know you won't be careless; that's what matters.
