Even more impressively, I only burnt half the knee, as well as a caesarean-scar strip on my tummy. I think it must be entirely down to poor application of suncream...
I was sorry to miss Gin & Whores, but apparently it all went wonderfully well.
Not sure I'd recommend actually staying in Naples, it's a huge, sprawling metropolis and has high levels of crime. Much better to go somewhere quieter and take the odd day trip in I suspect. What I saw of Naples (from the bus and the plane admittedly) wasn't very nice. Amalfi, on the other hand, is very nice indeed, and there are some other resorts within an hour's drive from Naples that might suit you better.
Please do come to the next one! I could tell that your Partners In Crime were pining for you. :)
Yes, Naples does look a bit unappealing so I am looking at the surrounding area instead. I am mostly just interested in climbing Vesuvius and seeing the archaelogical sites so should be able to bypass Naples altogether. Thank you for the tip - I don't know the area at all so am grateful for any advice! :)
You can do a day trip to Vesuvius, Pompeii and Herculaneum quite easily from the Amalfi coast - we did Vesuvius and Pompeii on one day, then Sorrento and Herculaneum another day. Definitely better to stay somewhere pretty and travel in to these places, the area around Vesuvius (Torre el Greco) is really impoverished-looking and full of rubbish. Literally, I don't think there'd been a rubbish collection for a couple of weeks.
We didn't go to Capri as I'd been told it gets very crowded, but that's probably worth a visit too, if only for the shops!
More advance warning of next party please, though I expect it will be around the same time next year!
