I walked out today and said something I have never said before, "I'm proud to be an American." It seems I spent most of my young adult life crying in a corner thinking about all the crappy politics going on.
Yeah, I was thinking about it, and this is the first presidential election in my voting life that actually went how I voted for it. The fact that I can actually listen to his voice without feeling the need to dry heave is a HUGE improvement.
I know you're not happy about this. However, what I'm really hoping for is an end to this bipartisan crap. If this whole country can actually get over the fact that people think differently and find a way to have that work for our benefit, it'd only make the country stronger.
Having studied politics for far too long, the problems that all politicians face in office are often far too complex for them to handle. It really just comes down to inspiring confidence and having a little luck.
As for the end of two party divide? I wouldn't hold my breath, it's as American as apple pie. :)
It's hard to believe but the Republicans were giving FDR crap about the way he was handling WWII, opportunism never misses a beat in human nature.
All that you say is true, I can't but help but be a bit overly-simplistic and naive. But I think that not just accepting what's handed to me is SOMETHING.
Man, I could never be a politician. It's the most thankless and vile job in the world. Praise for anyone who can stomach it.
He does have a big job a head of him that's for sure. I know if I walked into the white house and saw all the issues on the table, my first thought would be "where the hell do I start!?"
I was talking with Chris about it this morning, he was asking me what I thought Obama would do first, and I honestly had no clue because the country's in such a shambles! No joke, he has a huge job ahead of him and I hope Americans will be patient enough.
To think that five years ago, I have been insulted over the orochinagi.com forums for standing to my beliefs that the Bush administration is doing it wrong, because "lol you are a tree-hugging egalitarian liberal and you are an anachronism in a world at war!!!". This election, the fact that America finally grabbed a cup of sense, smells like poetic justice.
Marj00, these promises will be hard to live up to. We can see them bearing fruits not on the first year, perhaps we may see the result two years later or in the next mandate, should people gives Obama one more. Bush administration have done too much damage to America and the international relationships to be fixed with one Jesus touch. I don't expect to see signs of recovery before ten years, at the earliest. My only hope is that Obama doesn't completely give in the cynicism that tainted politics for too long.
Oh yeah, I remember those Orochinagi days quite well. Not just there, I had to keep my yap shut everywhere I went, lest I be called a "hippie" or a "bleeding-heart liberal" or a "socialist," as if this kind of stuff was supposed to hurt my feelings. I remember how excited some people got when Bush was elected and how they thought he was really going to turn stuff around. Well, now it's my turn to get excited and have other people feel nervous
( ... )
That's the big elephant in the room I dare not speak of. I'm afraid to jinx it. There were already a couple of whack jobs out there who wanted to give it a shot. Luckily they were stupid. I hope all assassination attempts are attempted by dumbasses.
