So I just had the scare of my life.....  I found a lump in my breast on Sunday evening.  I've been hysterical (literally) since then.  I went to the doctor yesterday (the first appointment available) and she said that there was definitely a lump.  She also said that it was probably a swollen gland, but then added, "but, I've never felt a breast ( Read more... )

I'll echo that...and encourage ladies to do it every month, so you can learn how your breasts change, so you can better get a feel for "normal" lumps and the "not right" ones. Mine are just awful about that...

I regularly check myself because my mother's mother had a double mastectomy when she was 35. This was definitely a not normal lump.... I'm just glad it's over!

oh jeez! How scary! I remember what a relief it was when I was feeling really sick and had signs of a low immune system I convinced myself I had HIV/AIDS and the test came back negative. Thank god your lump turned out to be nothing.

And I'm naieve when it comes to 'woman troubles' what exactly is a mammogram and why is it painful?

It's pretty much an x-ray of your breast. They have to press it between two glass plates until they can't press it any more. Then you have to stand there (in agony because your poor sensitive booby is being crushed) while they take the picture.
