I was looking around online for pictures to make icons out of... I was hoping to make a batch of vegetarian/animal rights icons, when I found this picture:

Dog pounds are terribly disturbing places. When we went to find Ziggy, our present dog, it absolutely killed me to walk out of there and leave the rest of the dogs. I was a mess. Their little expectant faces & then the look of dismay when you carried on walking was absolutely heartbreaking.

Ziggy had been abused & then kicked out, we think she was a Christmas present for someone. It took her at least a year to trust us fully, but now she does she's sort of melted in to this ball of mush & it's just so sad to think that a human could turn something so lovely in to the wreck she was when we got her.
When I get a proper place of my own, i'll be getting quite a few hopefully. It's very sad though, but at least your three dogs now have the life they deserve!

Poor Ziggy! :( I know how you felt, I wanted to take all those animals with me when I was at the pound too :(

My dog Molly, they think she might have been a breeder... they know she was kept outside all the time, in quarters so cramped she and her brothers would chew each others' ears :( Her brother was euthanized because he had "attitude problems". It's like wtf do they think a dog will have after living like that!? So sad :(

the thing with shelters, though, is that they don't want to give you the dogs. my mom and I went to the humane society to look at the dogs and we had to fill out extensive paperwork about what sort of yard we had, etc before we could even see the dogs. They asked if she had any kids and she said "2, but they're adults" and they said that doesn't count as an adult to take care of the dog. Then while we were there the people refused to give a puppy to a 4 year old girl because they didn't think she was old enough to take care of it, and it's totally not their call. I know they're just looking out for all the pets, but the dogs are so sad, and my family would LOVE to take one home and it's like they don't even WANT us to. But I understand how small things can set you off.

I know, you're right! Man, they make you jump through hoops, as if there isn't an overcrowding problem at those shelters. I mean, ok, I can see not releasing them to people they have *good reason* to believe wont care for them properly, but damn! I'm sorry they did that crap to you :(

It sucked, because we really wanted a dog, and they all had these sad little faces and these humane society people just refused to let us even think about it.

As retarded as it sounds, I am taking my kitty to the vet tomorrow, and I am really excited about it, because she's been under the weather and I like seeing her feeling better. She's our kitty and we love her.

And man, you must be feeling especially raw because of the doggy surgery. It's just so harsh, man. I love you.

Aw, I hope your kitty gets fixed up and starts feeling better :)

My dog had pre-surgery bloodwork done, and they found that, like my Malamute, she has low thyroid function...so they're putting her on meds for a month and then doing the surgery. They say she has to have her thyroid function fixed first to metabolize the anesthesia better. I'm feeling mixed about it... I'm glad it doesn't have to be this Friday as was planned, but still I'd like to get it over with :(

I love you! :)
