Your mom and I had a fun discussion about air pollution, where we mutually reached the conclusion that we didn't see why the hippies were harping on and on about global warming, scientific or no. Why?

Because we both also agreed that it's well-established that air pollution makes people sick, asthmatic, and/or dead. We didn't see why hippies think people will be more interested in the temperature going up a degree than in the fact that our children are choking on poisoned air and dying. She was especially fascinated and shocked by the fact that Hong Kong has 10,000 people die every year due to air pollution, not believing that even communists would sink so low as to poison their own kids for the sake of a buck

I've attended conferences on global warming where ultra-left politics are conflated with the real climate issues in such a way as to make it impossible for any reasonable person to take climate change seriously. It is truly unfortunate that so many birkenstockers and commies get involved and dilute the science with so much regrettable piffle.

Seriously! This fight should be ours to lose (much like a couple of elections I can think of) and somehow our compatriots keep fucking it up.

They may be trying for the moral high ground, but all they're actually doing is refusing to acknowledge that anybody's subjectivity could differ from theirs and still be valid. They seem to think that if someone doesn't find the thought of the noble polar bear's shrinking habitat absolutely heartrending, the poor misguided yokel will never be able to see the point of eliminating pollution.
