Little Women Fic: Renewal, Ch 1 (Jo/Laurie, Laurie/Amy), PG-13

Jan 16, 2010 18:51

This was originally written for Yuletide 2009, for Rachel, but I thought it would do no harm to repost it to my usual spots. She who wanted a story with Jo, Laurie and Amy, where Jo was afraid to love Laurie and where complication flowered inevitably. This was an irresistibly juicy prompt and I could not help but write something with a spinster Jo ( Read more... )

*gleefully claps hands* I LOVE this. You portray emotion so beautifully, so no matter if it's Jo being awkward but in love or Laurie truly despondent, your nuances ring true.

Once again, you have done an amazing job. :)

Oh, thank you for reading! This is, unfortunately, the epic-that-will-never-be, since I decided the looooong, twisty plot-line that would lead to Laurie finally realizing what Jo feels (and possibly reciprocating?) would take far, far, far too long. But nonetheless, I can't help but be pleased you enjoyed this bit. ;)

Part 2 of this story will go up whenever the Little Women fandom stops hibernating... it's as though everyone in it has gone underground recently!

Well of course the baby died if you named her Beth, Laurie! More forethought next time on not dooming your child from the get-go...

I do love Jo here, trying so hard to cheer up her friend when she knows that she's absolutely terrible at being subtle, and not much better at being nurturing and supportive. Poor Laurie, having his facial hair mocked so in his time of grief! Not that I can fault Jo--lip ferrets are bad at any time, and one disfiguring the face of Theodore Lawrence simply won't do! ;)

Hope you're doing well, and I'll be back to check on chapter two! :)

It's actually a little frightening how many Dead Guy Juniors are in the Little Women series... Louisa May sure did like recycling her names over and over-- and dooming children as they did so! :O

And darling, I miss you and I wish I wasn't so damn... ugh, I don't know. I'm in that bizarre mood where I want to curl up into a hole and not speak to ANYONE and it just makes me more miserable. Blech. Any ideas on how the hell I can climb out???

ah, those moods... safire_griffon February 9 2010, 22:45:17 UTC
Haha, I feel that way, um...most of the time. XD This is why I only have a handful of friends at a time; for one, it exhausts me to socialize with any more than that, and for two, most people can't put up with several weeks of relative silence between get-togethers. Figures, though, that I'm in one of my rare talkative, sociable moods right now! XD
The only advice I can give is that those times do pass. It helps me to get excited about a new project; if I have an artistic/creative outlet, these phases pass more quickly.

Oh my god, I had no idea anyone would ever come here from ONTD-- especially because of a Little Women discussion! I'm not sure whether to die from shame or just laugh at the coincidence here.

(Pssst... don't tell anyone else on ONTD that I write fanfic. You know they'll shun me!)

In any case, I'm glad you enjoyed this series, although... sadly, it's only got one chapter up. I do have a bunch of other Little Women fics up on my LJ if you'd like to read, though-- including a series where Amy gets shipped off to Siberia (England, Europe, whatever) and Jo and Laurie end up happily married. (AS THEY SHOULD HAVE.) If you like the thought of that, I'd be honored to have you give it a read. And thanks again for enjoying this!

One day, I swear, I'll write that fic that begins with Amy's head meeting a falling piano and ends with wedding bells for Jo and Laurie. I don't think many people would mind it. XD

And happy reading! I haven't been updating as much recently because of grad school (sigh) but come break, I'm going to be writing my arse off and trying to finish up a series or two. Mind me friending you in the meantime?
