passive-aggresive realty

I got home tonight to find a bill from the realty company.  They supposedly cleaned the apartment (which I already did) and had the carpets cleaned (which I paid to have done and had the company that the apt. manager recommend that I use do it) and re-keyed the locks.  I get no deposit back because of all of this and yet I did not get one phone call at all asking about keys, or a forwarding address, or anything else for that matter.  The check-out sheet stated that I gave no notice and that my lease was supposed to run until 6/31/08.  I told both the realty company's main office and the apartment manager that I was trying to find a subleaser.  I have a sticky-note with the name and phone number of the carpet cleaners in the apartment managers handwriting after I told her my intentions.  I made sure that the main office and the apt. manager had my cell phone number.  I called the main office back in October specifically to ask what needed to be done in order to have a subleaser take over.  The lease was until May 31st, not June 31st (esp. since there's only 30 days in June) as the check-out sheet said.  I would have gladly delivered my keys to either office had they called me as I still have the post office box key.

I called the electric company a little bit ago to cancel service and give them my forwarding address.  The chick at Mid-American told me that service was already stopped in my name on 2/28 and a final bill was sent to the apartment.  She said it was taken over by another tenant on that date, not the landlord.  I gave her my current address and she said she'd send a duplicate bill.  I'll get the other since my mail is being forwarded now.

I'm glad that I don't have to pay rent there, but if they're saying that I gave no notice and did all this stuff without ever attempting to contact me, I'm guessing they probably reported a breach to my lease to my credit report.  They were charging me for stuff that should not have been (re) done. The bill stated that I "forfeit" my deposit of $99.  I'm not so worried about the money as I am about how they have info about me.  I know my credit is far from good, but I am trying very hard to improve it and this sort of thing does not easily go away.
