Whilst sitting in my apt. manager's office on Friday waiting for return phone calls about buying a tire, she called her boss to ask about units around W. Des Moines.  He told her there was a 1 bed in Grimes that they just redid.  Its $495/mo, which is less than I'm paying now.  Josh and I went to look at it on Sunday.  The living room is smaller
