Dear well-meaning anti-discrimination residence posters,

You're sweet, and advance various noble ideals, and start off so well in your list of factors people shouldn't discriminate by that form some cute acrostic thingy. But then you throw in "faculty"!

Please do not be like the dear, sweet, wonderful guidance counselor, who may have saved my life ( Read more... )

I think I get this, but am not completely sure. Worryingly though, I quite like Nickleback.
Which one is stupid discrimination? The real kind which require you to be pig-ignorant (racism etc) or the imaginary kind which requires a more innocent lack of understanding? Like when people think they were bullied for having braces therefore they know what prejudice feels like...not quite, really.

My view on such comparrisons would be that it would be a mistake to imagine such things don't hurt and in individual cases, lead to genuine harm. On a global scale, however, nothing has ever scarred like racism, no prejudice is so widespreadly against a majority as sexism and very few other things so ingrained in otherwise seemingly open minded people as homophobia. There are levels, please respect them. ...I don't know if that was close to what you're saying here? =)

What's wrong with Nickleback? XD

What's wrong with Nickelback? You, Siobhan, have clearly not been subjected to overpatriotic radio stations recycling all three of their grating songs (for there are only three, even if they masquerade as twenty or so) several times an hour for the last decade. I am disappointed ( ... )

Yes well apparently not, but then again it wouldn't be patriotic to me, being not Canadian. XD Prison Gates and Photograph, awesome songs. =D

Yeah, I'd definitely agree with that, and it pans most issues, there's always something that dilutes/trivialises things that ought not to be diluted/trivialised.

Does Old Nickelback count as stupid discrimination?

Discriminating against fans of Old Nickelback... hmmm. I'd rather persecute people who stick gum under desks.

But if you like that horrendous Rock Star song, there WILL be a one-person Stalinist-style purge coming your way.

I can assure you, I don't like that song at all. Now, if you had asked me about Savin' Me, I would have given a completely different answer.
