[Flying] Yes Yes Yes Yes!

Trailer for Eagle Dynamics' upcoming carrier module for DCS. The video itself would be catnip for me no matter what music they used, but opening with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir's rendition of "Anchors Aweigh" was such a joyous surprise. The music is so completely different from what you'd expect from a video game trailer like this, which makes it hilarious, but it's also calling back to more than a century of US Navy tradition, so at the same time it's making me laugh, it's also uplifting and inspiring.

The two features I'm most looking forward to are the animated deck crew, and recorded audio for radio communications--everything from landings, departure and approach to 5 MC announcements. Many of them were recorded by actual service members who did it for real. It will also be possible for a live person to take over the Landing Signal Officer and Air Boss stations to provide a live interaction between pilot and ship. Someday I may get to experience being chewed out by the LSO for a 1-wire or a bolter, just like real naval aviators! :p

Eagle Systems forum post going into more detail about the features.

The trailer's focus of course is on F/A-18Cs, since that's Eagle Dynamics' in-house flagship sim, while the F-14B is a third-party expansion by Heatblur. But there was one Tomcat in there, and according to the devs form both Eagle Dynamics and Heatblur the F-14B will be completely compatible with the Supercarrier module. They're also planning ahead for any possible future modules for other aircraft that flew from Nimitz-class carriers. (Heatblur is working on an NPC A-6E Intruder for mission editors, and has speculated about expanding it to a flyable aircraft in the future. Which might also mean EA-6B electronic warfare aircraft and KA-6D tankers.)

I never got to do it for real for a variety of reasons, not all of which can be blamed on Colin Powell (still, fuck you Colin Powell, may you burn in hell for all eternity), but by God someday I'm going to do it in a simulator.

(By the way, if you mute the video and play the full version of "Anchor's Aweigh" while watching it, the music still syncs up with the visuals pretty well. I'm tempted to find a video editing program to put them together. No disrespect to Mötley Crüe. )
