Do you know what applications they make you use?

Also, if you're doing crazy graphic stuff then a beefy computer will be good and a non-beefy one will make you sad.

We're mostly just using Photoshop CS3 for now. This computer is probably the least beefy mac I could get so that worries me a bit. I'm sure I'll need more ram since it only has 1GB. Does that mean I have to go to one of those "authorized mac dealers" places to get it done?

You can never have too much ram, but Apple uses standard laptop sticks and your manual comes with instructions on how to do it yourself. Apple RAM tends to be super-expensive compared to the regular "name-brands" of Crucial and Kingston, and you can find lower prices and equivalent quality if you are careful enough. I don't know how much their online stores compare to what you would get from Future Shop and the like ... but the above two web sites should have an Apple Model Number to techspeak translator so you know if you need SODIMM2 DDR blah blah blah or whatever.
