"We owe it to the Society to return the favor that was done for us. What I want for the services I've provided newer members is not so much to be thanked or repaid in any way by them, but that they will pass it on to other, newer members."

Oooh, I like that. I like it a lot. It fits in well with my personal philosophy.

You'll be up for Queen's Collegium, won't you? And I think we're all planning to sit with you at Coronation ...

Heya! [friends you]

I remain really really happy that I helped AElflaed get Bright Ideas online... I find that I agree with quite a bit of her philosophy. Unfortunately, she's not much playing anymore.

Yes, that's what I mean about being up in a couple weeks. I'll be there for Queen's Collegium, teaching two classes (ooh, I should get working on those. ;) ). I'll be at Coronation as well, hopefully sitting and watching.

AElflaed was up for Caerthe A&S, and left me a really nice note about my scroll entry....

If you have the opportinity in the future, could you introduce me to her? I don't think I have ever met her in person.

Awwww, man! Now I'm double-extra sad about not going.

Dunno what all you or she might be at, but if such opportunity arises, I should be glad to do so.

I have often reflected on the way Lord Jamie and Lord Kyle are percieved. Reputations with the Society often seem to be such fragile things. I have seen people awarded for fixing normal messes by running around shouting and waving - messes that they were partially the cause - and I have seen people quietly fix monumental problems that were caused by someone else and only the people involved even know of it. Personally I prefer the latter method, and service is really its own reward - if we did it for recognition we all probably would have stopped helping out long ago - but to me it is sad when people whisper and gossip because, in their mind, you refuse to teach them in two weeks what it too you 10 years and a professional carear to learn; namely how to manage people and situations.

Being a skillful politician is a very helpful trait, but it can also require us to quietly suffer the slings and arrows of outragious fortune.

When I was offered the position of assistant manager on the tech floor at work, I did, in fact, consider it a good opportunity to learn how to manage people in the SCA. I'm weird, tho. ;)

Of course, I'm learning more over time, now that I'm the actual manager on the floor and as I see more of what White Stag does, that it's a different world to manage paid employees vs. managing volunteers in a social club.
