Wow, it seems like it has been forever since I have been on livejournal. So where in the world have I been?
Well, there has been a severe lack of Stargate updates of any kind because unfortunately the Stargate Movies Campaign went capoot when the movies were officially canceled by MGM. My poor little broken fangirl heart hasn't touched any Stargate fanfiction since then, but my husband just started rewatching it so I'm definitely not ruling it out. They say time heals all wounds, fandom induced ones as well!
As for where in the world I have been....well, in my own world quite frankly. I've been working on the same book series for about 5 years now and I am happy to say that I have completed the first drafts of books 1 and 2 of the series. I am working on a final edit of book 1 and then I plan to self publish it through Amazon and Barnes and Noble, possibly some other sites as well. Why? Well, because quite frankly I am too damn lazy to go through the rigmarole of trying to get published through a publishing house. Query letters to agents, possible replies from agents asking for book proposals, sending off book proposals, meetings, deadlines...Yea, so not my thing. I love to write and I love to share the stories I create, but I do not love the idea of essentially going around to literary agents with my manuscript held out with pleading hands saying "Please sir, may I have a contract?"
That might sound very "Damn the man! Down with the establishment!" of me, but that isn't my stance at all. I just don't have the time for anything beyond self publishing. I probably won't be able to do much advertising for my self published books either. I'm still in college and aiming to get into grad school, which means my last year is going to be full on nerd mode. I'm hoping to get into Physical Therapy school and they are pretty competitive at my local school. Unfortunately, I am pretty limited in my grad school options because my husband and I bought a house here. Let that be a lesson to you, kiddies: Never buy a house if you have grad school ambitions. So my point is that I just don't have time to deal with potential publishers on top of school. And I have no ambitions to be this best selling author. As long as I get to share my books with even a few people, I'm good with it.
So, as summer winds down, I will continue to edit book 1 for a potential release date in August, depending on when my husband gets done with the cover and my editors (/friends and family) get their notes back to me. I'll also be planning book 3, which I hope to work on during CampNaNo August and for NaNoWriMo in November. I'm going to keep updating LiveJournal with my progress because I've heard this whole blogging thing is good for the writing soul and a good way to advertise. ;)
