Least Squares Adjustments ?

So Andy got a message from him mom today asking if we knew what least squares adjustments were. She said they were interviewing for a job and a math major didn't know what that was and her boss thought that every math major should know this. His mom thinks probably not and it is more specific to what they do there, in that field ( Read more... )

I know the least squares regression.....

I think you should tell you mom to tell her boss that MATH and STATS are different and that perhaps every STATS major should know that, not every MATH major.

I also know what it is. But I'm with Laura - that's more of a stats thing, not math. The only reason I know it is because I took a statistics course. It hasn't been mentioned in any of the math courses I've taken.

Thanks for the input. I will be able to give his mom an affirmative NO this is not something ALL MATH people know. Now that it is confirmed by 4 mathematicians. Thanks guys :)
