Seriously though, I had thought of putting up my 25 Random Things here in addition to facebook, and now I'm stealing some other surveys a certain red-headed ex-roommate has put on her page as well...
So on facebook this meme has been circulating where you are supposed to tell 25 random things about yourself and then tag 25 friends to do the same. So here are my 25 random things:
1. I have no idea what I want to do with the rest of my life. Sometimes this is scary and intimidating. Sometimes it makes me feel very free, since I still have so many options. For the most part though, it's just making me very unmotivated. As a result, I've started applying for jobs completely unrelated to my field. I'm hoping someone thinks I am competent enough to hire.
2. I used to be (and at times still consider myself to be) a huge nerd. I love Star Wars. I've been to opening day for all five Harry Potter films and picked up the last four books at midnight (some in costume). In high school I went to LAN parties (though I never really considered myself to be a gamer). I enjoy Rock Band.
3. I'm dating this guy... His name is Nova, he lives in Texas, we were friends in undergrad. He's pretty much amazing.
4. As a child, I devoured books. If I had the time (or thought I did at any rate), I'd probably still read one a week or so. As it stands, in the last two months I have reread Wicked, finished off its sequel, Son of a Witch (these two were a Christmas gift from my aforementioned BF), and read all four Twilight books.
5. Reading Twilight, watching the incredibly awful film of the same title (awful but somehow lovable at the same time?) and watching other incredible Joss Whedon projects such as Firefly (aka the best show ever) and Dr. Horrible's Sing-a-Long Blog (aka the best thing on the internet... ever) led me to watch the first five seasons (thus far) of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I now regret making fun of people who liked this show when it was originally on.
6. Much to the chagrin (I imagine) of my very Republican grandparents, I am a democrat. However, take this with a grain of salt, I don't have incredibly strong opinions on politics and the ones I do have, I won't share unprompted. I did however, dress up as Sarah Palin for Halloween this year. It seemed appropriate, I have the right hair color and was kinda in a hurry...
7. I really enjoy traveling. My bestest friend and I took an amazing trip to England and Paris a couple summers ago. I'd love to go back to Europe, but am doubtful that I'll have the money to anytime soon.
8. I'm secretly a bit of a Disney nut. I loooooooove Disney World, I have a small collection of Disney films (sadly I have not tracked down my all-time favorites still) and for a while, I was a weekly visitor to a site called Jim Hill Media, home of Disney news and reviews. Wall*E was a recent favorite; one of my favorite Christmas gifts this year is a little dancing Wall*E toy that I can play iPod through. He's pretty cool. ^^
9. In high school, I was pretty shy. I'm still pretty shy, though I'd like to think I've grown out of that a little...
10. My musical tastes are widely varied, but generally center around rock. Favorite bands right now: Death Cab for Cutie, Augustana and Shiny Toy Guns. Coincidentally, I've just realized I accidentally deleted my iTunes library folders in the great reformat for any artist after 'R' in the alphabet. :( (And now I'm spending 45 minutes copying all the music off of my iPod onto my laptop so I can sort through it and re-add the songs that are missing to my library... great...)
11. I don't think I'm a clothes horse, but I have a weakness for certain items. Well-fitting jeans (::angry fists toward American Eagle for discontinuing my favorite kind::), winter coats (a necessity in this climate) and cute shoes in particular are things I have a very hard time talking myself out of buying.
12. I haven't named my car, though she's not exactly mine still. I do give her the occasional pep talk (especially in the cold or when there are hills) and refer to her as 'baby' in such. That's right, now you all KNOW I'm nuts...
13. I did name my newest laptop, Athena.
14. I love chocolate. I'm pretty sure there's something in it that acts as a natural anti-depressant.
15. I came to grad school expecting to be inspired by teaching and by music. I've found neither of those things very inspiring in the last year and a half. Teaching still scares the living crap out of me; even if I have a few months to prepare the lecture, I'm just not comfortable in front of a group. And despite studying a variety of composers and styles, many I had never heard of before coming to Bowling Green or had not studied in depth before, I haven't really been inspired by any of them to the point where I feel like I could spend the rest of my life studying them. (This is very closely related to thing #1).
16. I used to do theater in high school. I really enjoyed it. Also used to play for pit orchestras, but haven't had the opportunity to do so in a very long time.
17. I'm very crafty. I enjoy knitting (recently learned to cable), scrapbooking (though I've been putting this off since the stupid screw is stuck in my college album, making it impossible for me to add more pages) and sewing (though my poor machine has been in the closet since we moved to C.B. in August). If you see me wearing a hat or mittens, I probably made them. Scarves take way too much time and I usually give up in the middle.
18. In May I will have worked for Cinemark for five years. This means I get a free watch!
19. Closely related, I've seen an awful lot of movies, good and bad, in the last four and half or so years. The nicest thing about them being free is that I don't feel I need to stay for all of the film if it's truly terrible. So far I've walked out of three films: Borat, Superbad, and March of the Penguins.
20. I didn't start drinking until moving to Bowling Green. If it wasn't for Kristine, I don't think I'd ever have stepped foot in a bar outside of 149 for jazz night. It's not something I'd do every weekend, but with the right crowd, it can be a lot of fun.
21. Pittsburgh is one of my favorite cities in the US. I still find it nearly impossible to navigate, however, I am able to find my favorite places without too much difficulty (this said, I haven't been to Lulu's in ages).
22. I'm pretty annoyed when technology doesn't want to play nice. I reformatted my laptop a few weeks ago and am still playing catch up with things I didn't even know I used on a regular basis (my iTunes library for instance which I somehow managed to delete half of or how Firefox and NAXOS are practically mortal enemies). After reformatting the computer I realized what it means when the thing beeps at me and randomly shuts itself off- it's just too hot, not a problem with software...
23. I consider myself a competent amateur photographer. Check out some of my pics from that trip to England/France if you don't believe me. Some of them turned out quite nicely. As a caveat though, I have to mention that I do own a very nice digital SLR camera, so this may be one of the factors to my success.
24. I really enjoy a good game of hockey. It's the one sport I find tolerable. I even own a cowbell to take to games.
25. I loathe and abhor those stupid little smilie graphics on AIM. I really miss the option to turn them off. So I use anime smilies instead in some cases. ^_^

I think so. I mean, I think about them from time to time. Not in the same way I would have when we were dating, but more of a friendly sort of thing.

I doubt. I consider that everything has a purpose. And I imagine it'll be a while before there's any more kissing on my end anyway.

We're dating, despite quite a bit of distance.

Again, a few. Mostly online, though I am finding myself with more and more guy friends here than girls. Don't know why, that's the way it was in high school, but not so much in college

This morning I had a 9:30 class, so I was up at 8 something. Yuck!

Five pillows, two comforters, a fluffy Wall*E throw, Stitch from my Disney trip with Gena, giant puppy from 'Rin, the little sock bunny thing Nova made me and a Wall*E pillow Mac gave me for Christmas.

Assumedly yes. I may even get to see the 'other' next month, we'll see. :)
Did you cry at your high school graduation?
I honestly can't remember if I cried at MY high school graduation. I do remember crying the year before cause a few of my best friends graduated. Also cried at my little bro's, but that was because Helene and Mary sang 'Because I Knew You' from Wicked.

I've had a few boyfriends who were... shall we say... less than popular with my friends, but I wouldn't say they were necessarily hated.

Relatively. I'm scared to death of the test that's coming up in less than two weeks, but I just need to get my butt in gear and study, study, study! Aside from that, life is pretty good. :)

No. I believe love is something you sorta grow into. You can be attracted to someone at first sight, but I don't think you can be 'in love' with them until you know them very well.

Pay attention to them? I've never been great at that really.

I guess? It's about learning to compromise and how to not piss each other off mostly though.

Honestly, usually I have NO idea. Like I said, I'm not great at this aspect of interpersonal relationships. I usually know when/if they say something.

Right? As opposed to what, wrong? or Left? Because left/right I'm still awful at. Right/wrong however is so subjective, it differs for each person. My sense is based primarily on how I was raised and trained. (i.e. Don't write parallel fifths or Bach will kill a kitten. :( )

Yeah, I think so. As long as it didn't feel too weird. I think friends make the best relationships since you already know each other so well.

Seriously though, I had thought of putting up my 25 Random Things here in addition to facebook, and now I'm stealing some other surveys a certain red-headed ex-roommate has put on her page as well...
So on facebook this meme has been circulating where you are supposed to tell 25 random things about yourself and then tag 25 friends to do the same. So here are my 25 random things:
1. I have no idea what I want to do with the rest of my life. Sometimes this is scary and intimidating. Sometimes it makes me feel very free, since I still have so many options. For the most part though, it's just making me very unmotivated. As a result, I've started applying for jobs completely unrelated to my field. I'm hoping someone thinks I am competent enough to hire.
2. I used to be (and at times still consider myself to be) a huge nerd. I love Star Wars. I've been to opening day for all five Harry Potter films and picked up the last four books at midnight (some in costume). In high school I went to LAN parties (though I never really considered myself to be a gamer). I enjoy Rock Band.
3. I'm dating this guy... His name is Nova, he lives in Texas, we were friends in undergrad. He's pretty much amazing.
4. As a child, I devoured books. If I had the time (or thought I did at any rate), I'd probably still read one a week or so. As it stands, in the last two months I have reread Wicked, finished off its sequel, Son of a Witch (these two were a Christmas gift from my aforementioned BF), and read all four Twilight books.
5. Reading Twilight, watching the incredibly awful film of the same title (awful but somehow lovable at the same time?) and watching other incredible Joss Whedon projects such as Firefly (aka the best show ever) and Dr. Horrible's Sing-a-Long Blog (aka the best thing on the internet... ever) led me to watch the first five seasons (thus far) of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I now regret making fun of people who liked this show when it was originally on.
6. Much to the chagrin (I imagine) of my very Republican grandparents, I am a democrat. However, take this with a grain of salt, I don't have incredibly strong opinions on politics and the ones I do have, I won't share unprompted. I did however, dress up as Sarah Palin for Halloween this year. It seemed appropriate, I have the right hair color and was kinda in a hurry...
7. I really enjoy traveling. My bestest friend and I took an amazing trip to England and Paris a couple summers ago. I'd love to go back to Europe, but am doubtful that I'll have the money to anytime soon.
8. I'm secretly a bit of a Disney nut. I loooooooove Disney World, I have a small collection of Disney films (sadly I have not tracked down my all-time favorites still) and for a while, I was a weekly visitor to a site called Jim Hill Media, home of Disney news and reviews. Wall*E was a recent favorite; one of my favorite Christmas gifts this year is a little dancing Wall*E toy that I can play iPod through. He's pretty cool. ^^
9. In high school, I was pretty shy. I'm still pretty shy, though I'd like to think I've grown out of that a little...
10. My musical tastes are widely varied, but generally center around rock. Favorite bands right now: Death Cab for Cutie, Augustana and Shiny Toy Guns. Coincidentally, I've just realized I accidentally deleted my iTunes library folders in the great reformat for any artist after 'R' in the alphabet. :( (And now I'm spending 45 minutes copying all the music off of my iPod onto my laptop so I can sort through it and re-add the songs that are missing to my library... great...)
11. I don't think I'm a clothes horse, but I have a weakness for certain items. Well-fitting jeans (::angry fists toward American Eagle for discontinuing my favorite kind::), winter coats (a necessity in this climate) and cute shoes in particular are things I have a very hard time talking myself out of buying.
12. I haven't named my car, though she's not exactly mine still. I do give her the occasional pep talk (especially in the cold or when there are hills) and refer to her as 'baby' in such. That's right, now you all KNOW I'm nuts...
13. I did name my newest laptop, Athena.
14. I love chocolate. I'm pretty sure there's something in it that acts as a natural anti-depressant.
15. I came to grad school expecting to be inspired by teaching and by music. I've found neither of those things very inspiring in the last year and a half. Teaching still scares the living crap out of me; even if I have a few months to prepare the lecture, I'm just not comfortable in front of a group. And despite studying a variety of composers and styles, many I had never heard of before coming to Bowling Green or had not studied in depth before, I haven't really been inspired by any of them to the point where I feel like I could spend the rest of my life studying them. (This is very closely related to thing #1).
16. I used to do theater in high school. I really enjoyed it. Also used to play for pit orchestras, but haven't had the opportunity to do so in a very long time.
17. I'm very crafty. I enjoy knitting (recently learned to cable), scrapbooking (though I've been putting this off since the stupid screw is stuck in my college album, making it impossible for me to add more pages) and sewing (though my poor machine has been in the closet since we moved to C.B. in August). If you see me wearing a hat or mittens, I probably made them. Scarves take way too much time and I usually give up in the middle.
18. In May I will have worked for Cinemark for five years. This means I get a free watch!
19. Closely related, I've seen an awful lot of movies, good and bad, in the last four and half or so years. The nicest thing about them being free is that I don't feel I need to stay for all of the film if it's truly terrible. So far I've walked out of three films: Borat, Superbad, and March of the Penguins.
20. I didn't start drinking until moving to Bowling Green. If it wasn't for Kristine, I don't think I'd ever have stepped foot in a bar outside of 149 for jazz night. It's not something I'd do every weekend, but with the right crowd, it can be a lot of fun.
21. Pittsburgh is one of my favorite cities in the US. I still find it nearly impossible to navigate, however, I am able to find my favorite places without too much difficulty (this said, I haven't been to Lulu's in ages).
22. I'm pretty annoyed when technology doesn't want to play nice. I reformatted my laptop a few weeks ago and am still playing catch up with things I didn't even know I used on a regular basis (my iTunes library for instance which I somehow managed to delete half of or how Firefox and NAXOS are practically mortal enemies). After reformatting the computer I realized what it means when the thing beeps at me and randomly shuts itself off- it's just too hot, not a problem with software...
23. I consider myself a competent amateur photographer. Check out some of my pics from that trip to England/France if you don't believe me. Some of them turned out quite nicely. As a caveat though, I have to mention that I do own a very nice digital SLR camera, so this may be one of the factors to my success.
24. I really enjoy a good game of hockey. It's the one sport I find tolerable. I even own a cowbell to take to games.
25. I loathe and abhor those stupid little smilie graphics on AIM. I really miss the option to turn them off. So I use anime smilies instead in some cases. ^_^

Yes. I often correct people on AIM even. I usually apologize for it though. I'm great at grading, though it often takes me a while because I am pretty picky. My poor ickle freshmens...

I guess? Attractiveness is another of those very subjective things which differ from person to person. Someone I find attractive is potentially not attractive to others and vice versa.

I'm very into plans, plans and backup plans. I think that's how things run smoothly. Though I must admit, even with the best laid plans, things don't always go the way you want them to.

Eh, nothing really. Everything happens with purpose I think, so even things that could be 'bad' probably have some hidden meaning or reason for them.

In other news, I have developed a horrible, itchy rash. I thought it was an allergic reaction to... ?? Fabric softener? Not terribly sure, but I hope it goes away soon. :(
