*dusts off her Livejournal* It’s been a while, eh? Life hasn’t changed that much and the less said about real life, the better - so I’ll concentrate on the things that manage to give me a happy, warm feeling in my belly, and “Merlin” is right up there in the top 3.

I’ve tried long enough to stay out of the whole “think too deeply about Merlin” ( Read more... )

Thanks for a good read that made me laugh! :) I just had to comment because I had exactly the same reaction to this episode as you: I loved the first scenes, then (the first time watching the episode) I did not like the dark comedy it turned into ... but then seeing the episode a second time I started to really enjoy it!

For me, the first time, it was just too important and grave and dramatic that Merlin (even under mind control) would try to kill Arthur, so I just did not buy doing that as comedy. It felt the writers went too far. But once you accept what the show is trying to do (and know that Arthur won't get hurt by Merlin! ;)), it is immensely enjoyable! :)

Oh my, I only just saw your comment - I'm so sorry for not replying sooner! :(

Yes, this is definitely the kind of episode that grows on you with later viewings - the first time, I was *seething* with rage, LOL! How dare they make it a comedy? How dare they pull Dragoon into this?? How dare they fail the Merlin-Morgana fight? I still find it hard to buy that Merlin would make such an incompetent assassin (he'd snap a finger, Arthur drops dead, end of story), but then Colin just has to smile that adorable grin when he gets out of the swamp, and I'm like "ok, just give it to me, no matter how little sense it makes" - because you can see he LOVED playing this, and you'll love this ep because of him. :) And when I look at the last two eps (4x08 and 4x09), I'll remember that ep all the more fondly!
