I have cats!

Jan 24, 2010 20:37

It's been 3 years since I lost my darling buddy Graham, who'd been my friend and companion for 21 years. I had to mourn him for a while, but last year I started feeling the time had come for new kitty friends. But something kept the time from being right-- trips, too busy at work, something ( Read more... )

How wonderful! I'm so happy for the three of you. May you have many, many years of joy with each other.

Thank you so much! Already I feel more at peace. There's nothing like kitties to add relaxation to a home. :)

Aw! I'm happy for you! They are both adorable, but I am particularly taken with the fluffy gray one.

The fluffy gray one is astoundingly beautiful. He was king of a colony of feral cats who were eventually trapped. Sadly, most of them tested positive for FIV and many were destroyed, but the animal control people could not bear to put down this one. I'm so glad they didn't. He really has a presence. When I announced at the front desk that I wanted to adopt him, the staff went all smiley and misty-eyed and applauded, then they all had to crowd around to wish him well. He really made an impression on them. (Little Lorenzo got his share of snuggles, too.)

Thank you! I'm really glad I could offer them a home. They make a nice pair, as different as their personalities are. The girls would have had to be renamed-- I was thinking Elizabeth and Emma-- but Lorenzo I think is a cool name, and I think Mr. Knightley will stick. Too bad; my mom wants to have a cat-naming contest within the family. We'll see! :)

How lovely they are!

This is obviously the time to reopen hearts after kitty losses. I got two new cats from the shelter just 2 weeks ago. I decided I wanted two adult cats (I knew the kittens would be grabbed up), and I found two that had bonded at the shelter. It is SO good to have cat-presence again after 3 years of doing without.

I am also in love with your passion for Jane Austen...

3 years! It's the same timeframe. I have to admit, I got misty as I was getting new cats, because Graham was such a joy to my life. But it was time to fill the empty a little with new friends. It definitely felt right.

I love Jane. She's a regular inspiration (as is Darcy and Knightley...) :)

Mazel Tov, Mariole! Congrats on your 2 new boys! I think it's wonderful you were willing to go with older cats; so many people only want kittens, and the older ones get left behind. They both look lovely!

Enjoy,
Hewene

Yes, I wanted companions, but not necessarily a breed or a kitten. I just wanted a loving personality. It turns out that (feline leukemia aside) black cats are often not adopted; go figure. I guess everyone prefers a unique color pattern. But Lorenzo is so charming, he really stood out. I'm so glad they're both here.
