Knightley glares after the Coyote. "Be afraid! Be very afraid!"
:D
I had a guinea pig once who chased a cat out of the garden. I must have told you that tale. The guinea pig was called Samwise Gamgee... :D (I'd like to say I said to him "You have a stout heart, little cavy" but as it was thirty years before the film, and I'm pretty sure that line is pure PJ, I didn't*)
*curse being away from all eight of my copies of LotR! Faramir used the stout word to Sam in Ithilien, but I don't think it was quite in that form. :D
I'm at home and have my copies to hand. Only two of them though - plus one translated. Nursing a super-sore throat and running a bit of a fever. Pottering about the net.
ANYWAY!
Strider calls Sam stout when Sam challenges him over possibly being a play-acting spy at the Prancing Pony:
"That you are a stout fellow," answered Strider; "but I am afraid my only answer to you, Sam Gamgee is this. If I had killed the real Strider, I could kill you....
Maeg has answered the "stout" question, so I will say that, yes, little animals amaze me when they get tough. I've seen a prairie dog fight off a coyote through nothing but pure spunk. I don't remember the guinea pig Samwise tale, but it sounds about right. My former cat launched himself at a charging Doberman, latched onto the dog's nose, and drove it yelping from the yard. O_o
I hope so, too. I don't like my kitties to be coyote fodder.
Your icon! *snerk* Yes, that is the situation at my house.
I honestly don't think I'm in any danger from coyotes; every one I've ever seen has been wonderfully clever, but eager to get away from me. Perhaps it's because I've never cornered one; hard to do on a prairie. Thank goodness! Although I did feel rather spooked when I was riding home late one night along the canal, and a fire engine went off. Suddenly at least 30 coyotes started singing along with the siren, all alongside of me. I got pretty good speed on my bike getting out of there! :)
Cats are fearless (or brainless). Mine chased off a 100 lb yellow lab once and that dog was MOVING! It always amazes me that a small furry bundle of claws and teeth can chase off something like a coyote.
What brave kitties! They deserve a treat for that! :D
When my brother and I were little kids, a stray dog walked up to us, meaning no harm I'm sure, but our cat saw DANGER and shot after it, chased it all the way down the block. She also used to tease the dobermans that lived behind our house by sitting in front of the chain link fence and ignoring them as they ran back and forth barking at her. She was feisty cat.
It is nice to think the cats can look after themselves, but it's really a dangerous game. I wish mine were a little more cautious, and just came into the house when the White Ghost shows up. *hugs them*

I'm so sorry about your illness! Please feel better, dear. My cats give you lots of soft furry pets from across the pond. :)

My vote is brainless. A clever cat would come in; mine just wants to show off his human. His lame, old, limping, pathetic human. Truly love is blind.

And chase coyotes. They're a bit weird, actually. :)
