In search of the perfect blue cheese burger

You heard it here first: the best Margarita to be had-- IN THE WORLD-- is at Gate 5 in the Miami International Airport-- Tequilero's-- don't miss it. At $10 per glass, a BARGAIN. (We had two, each. We would have got more, but they don't serve these at 5 AM ( Read more... )

How can they not serve them at 5am? This is a serious error and should be rectified! Preferably witha margarita fountain or something.

*sulks because is not there*

You're right, you need one of these burgers. Fly into Denver, south on 285 about three hours, east on 50 a few minutes, and you're here! The restaurant is the Boathouse at the end of F street, where the famous "turn-around" is. That's what the hotel clerk told us, with justifiable pride.

"We all use the turn-around," he said, enlarging the computer map to point out the detail of it in satellite view. "People cruise to the turn-around, and turn around there. It's what we do in Salida!"

The turn-around is a small parking lot. But, to be fair, there _is_ room to turn-around. And it's at the end of the street, so very convenient.

There's a walk along the river that looks tempting-- nice walk among terraces with plunging river water and golden trees hanging above it. We'll probably take a stroll today. Cheers!

Glad to hear you're having such mouth-watering (and sinus-watering) experiences. :) And I hear you on the subject of rural post-offices, especially if you mean (as I think you do) closed for good, not closed for lunch.

You know, I hadn't thought of that. More research is called for. Fortunately downtown Salida is about 4 blocks, so we can accomplish that easily on foot today. We have no plans except to walk, or hike, or lounge in a hot springs. Maggie's burning up the computer as we speak. It will be a nice day. :)

Have fun :) The only time I've been in a hot spring was at Petriolo in Tuscany. It was lovely and warm but the sulphur smell was very strong.

I don't think I've been in a hot springs in Colorado-- I'll try to remember the smell. Wait, I remember: I was in Ouray in winter. I swam in the giant public pool in winter. The steam made a helmet of ice over my head. We amused ourselves by collecting ice caps, then diving under the water and melting it.

I don't remember a sulfurous odor-- we will reconfirm tomorrow when we go to St. Elmo's. Ouray boasted the famous "vapor caves"-- totally the inspiration for Too Many Tooks.

You will be so glad to learn that, at 12:01 PM, we decided it was time to DRINK!!!! So we went back to the hotel where Maggie (who really has her thinking cap on today, I must say) had pre-chilled a bottle of Sauvignon blanc in the hotel sink by burying it in ice. The maid still hasn't arrived as of the time of this writing (one glass of wine later)-- we were wondering what she might say at finding this booze in the sink. Maggie maintained that she's certainly seen worse ( ... )
