Let's hope something comes of it! Actually, I think it will. I just have to keep sending them out there; sooner or later they'll find somewhere to live.

I already got 2 back. One had been out for 6 months; the editor had been mulling it and decided to pass. So that's disappointing. The other editor said what didn't work for him about the story, but said he really liked my style and to send more. So that's encouraging. I make marks next to the friendly editors and make sure to send them more. Everything's out right now, but they'll trickle back soon enough. :)

My problem has been lack of persistence; I'll send out a story 2 or 3 times and then shelve it. I'm determined to keep the stories I like circulating until they find a home. Thanks for your good wishes!

I admire your persistence! It's hard to keep faith in a story if it cops rejections. *applauds you*

There can be so many things going on with a rejection besides the story. The most likely excuse I hear from editors is that they recently acquired something too similar to it-- that rings true. So a story has to be distinctive yet find the right market plus get past all the readers who can be anybody, with all their individual tastes, before it even gets to the main editor for consideration.

So, out they keep going! I got 2 back since I posted this, sent one out immediately and another new one. I want to reread the long one that came back to see if I can tighten it. I think I need to eliminate one character. A writer's work is never done!
