Chapter 6

7 weeks later and he had only seen her from a distance, but they hadn’t talked.  When he did see her, he felt guilty and hopeful by her appearance.  She had put on a few pounds and he felt guilty because it was her thinking food that more than likely did her in.  At the same time, that made him hopeful she was thinking of him. The only time she ever ate ice cream was when she was thinking on a life decision that was hard for her to make.  He could only hope that he was the one she was thinking about and that she was coming to an answer soon.  He wanted to be near her, to comfort her, talk to her, laugh with her.  He wanted to be her man.

Today she would be back on the set.  He got the news last week that she was doing backstage again.  He was trying to spend time out of the studio and trailer to catch a glimpse of her and hopefully she would talk to him.

As he came out of hair and makeup, he ran into a small woman who let out a slightly frightened scream.  The two collided.  He looked down at her and his mouth went into a full bright smile.  “Sabrina!  Hi.”  He leaned in to give her a hug and kissed her cheek.

“You scared me,” was all she managed to say.

“Oh, I’m sorry.  I didn’t mean to.  I guess I should look both ways before crossing the hall.”

“I’m pretty sure it was my fault.  I wasn’t even looking up.”

“What had you so preoccupied?”

“My first assignment.  I’m interviewing you.”  She smiled faintly and he couldn’t read her as he had hoped.

“Good.  I love doing interviews with you.  How have you been?  I’ve…uhm…I’ve missed you.”

Her smiled brightened slightly.  “Okay I guess.”

“Just okay?”  He was hoping she would give more than just a one word answer.

“Yeah, I guess just okay.  I’ve been dealing with a lot.  You know how I get.”

“I do.  Do you think you could find some time to catch up?”

She looked nervous suddenly.  She stumbled across her words and her face flushed. “I…uh…I’m not so sure…I just don’t know…”

“Please say yes!”

“I guess.”

“Great!  When do you have time?”  He was excited about her agreement to meet and talk.  Maybe he could break into this shell he’s seen her put on so many times before.

“Well, as I recall,” she started, her sarcasm returning, “you have the next two nights booked with this little television program that nobody’s ever heard of.”  She winked at him.  “You’re the one who’s really busy…you give me a time.”

“We could have lunch today!”

“I guess that would be okay.”

“Well, there’s slightly more.  This is going to sound awkward but, will you come with me to my house?  My mom brought me some awesome lasagna last night and I can’t possibly eat it all.”

“Most definitely!   I LOVE your mom’s lasagna.  Do you want me to meet you at the apartment?”

“You could, but me and the lasagna wouldn’t be there.  I moved into my own place to give Derek some time with his new girl.  She moved in.  Anyway…I could drive us there since you have to come back here today too.”

“Okay.  What time?”

“Why don’t you meet me outside the rehearsal suites at 12:30.”

“Great.  See you then.  I have to go do an interview for this week.”  She smiling and not paying much attention.

“Um…is that the interview with me?”

She laughs nervously.  “Yeah, busted huh?  I kinda zoned out.  I have to go get changed into my dress, but I’ll be back in 30 minutes to interview you and Morgan.”

He watches her walk down the hall and leave the studio, more than likely heading to her trailer.

Sabrina slipped into the rehearsal suite where Mark and Morgan were practicing.  When Morgan turned around, she bolted towards Sabrina and nearly knocked her down.  Sabrina wobbled in her high heels and if it hadn’t been for Burt the cameraman, she would have fallen.

“Thank you so much for all the footwork you let Mark film.  It’s really helped.  I appreciate it sooo much.  Oh, and did Mark tell you I’m a HUGE fan.  I’ll NEVER be able to dance like you.  I can’t believe I’m meeting you!  I’m so excited.”

Mark watched as Sabrina laughed softly and smiled widely.  He was glad he got to witness this moment.  He knew by Morgan’s incessant talking about her that she would act this way.  She was throwing herself at the Great Sabrina Bryan, Cheetah Girl.  He loved watching his humble Sabrina handle it all.  She might be some great icon to others, but to him, she’s the love of his life and he has to convince her today to give him another chance.

Sabrina set up quickly for the interview and finally got Morgan calmed down in that sweet way she had.  She even told her they could go to lunch one day to get to know one another.  Morgan almost floated to Mark to tell him.  Mark had a permanent smile on his face.  Sabrina handled herself with complete confidence and the performer in her came out.  She still had that way of being carefree enough to show her silly side and still be professional.  She had a knack.  After the interview and a number of hugs from Morgan, she left with the camera man.
