Disclaimer: I own no one.

Mark’s smile faded when she opened the door and he saw her.  “Oh no, you look like you’ve been upset all night.  I shouldn’t have left you alone.”

She didn’t have the strength to argue with him so she let him follow her inside.  She laid back down on the couch and put the cool cloth back over her eyes. He hears her moan.  “Sabrina, are you okay?”

“Do I look okay?”

“Well…no.”

She didn’t move a muscle other than the few it took to talk.  “Can we reschedule?”

“Of course.  It’s that bad isn’t it?  You wouldn’t cancel over feeling a little bad or being a little tired.  Is there anything I can do to help?”

“Tell Shawn sorry.  We can try tomorrow.  My head is killing me.  I don’t think I can stand upright, let alone teach her anything.”

“Have you taken anything?”  He looked on worried for her.

“I took some Tylenol but that did nothing.  I need to refill my prescription, but I can’t drive to get it.”

He dared to ask, “Can I get it for you?  I don’t mind at all.”

She lifted the washcloth.  “Normally I wouldn’t let you, but I would appreciate it very much.  You can charge it to my account, they know me there.  It’s the drug store on Vine St.”

Mark looks at her and smiles warmly.  He walks to her and kisses her cheek.  “Shawn just pulled up, so I’ll tell her and then go and get your medicine.  Is there anything else you need?”

“No…and Mark?”

“Yes Sabrina?”

“Thank you.  I do appreciate it.”

“Hey, what are friends for?  I want to help you.  I’ll be back as soon as I can.  Call me if you think of anything you want or need.”  He watched her replace the washcloth over her eyes and settle back into the couch.  He walked outside and explained things to Shawn, but not before apologizing and promising his attitude would be changing for the better.  Shawn was very appreciative.

Mark arrived at the drug store on Vine Street. When he went inside to get the medication, the pharmacist asked to talk to him.  “Yes sir, are you picking up Sabrina Hinojos’ medication?”

“Yes, is there a problem?”  Mark looked worried, what if he couldn’t get the medicine she needed.

“No, there’s no problem.  Ms. Hinojos just called to tell me it was okay for you to get her medicine.  I was hoping you wouldn’t mind taking her another prescription too?”

“Oh, of course not, I would be happy to.  May I ask what the other medication is for?  I know the one is for headaches.”

“Sure, let’s see…the headache medicine, as you call it, is for severe migraines.  She’s really suffered with those.  The second is for anxiety and it helps with depression too.  I’ll just charge those to her account and you can be on your way.”  The man came back, thanked Mark and went on to help someone else.  Mark walked out to the car and couldn’t help but wonder what was going on with her.  He got back to her house and walked in the door.  He set the medicine down and walked into the living room.  He ran to her.  She was hanging off of the couch and a small white garbage can was by her head.  He could smell the vomit.

“Sabrina, are you okay?”  He heard her moan and then she sat upright and vomited again.  He helped her stay on the couch by holding her and keeping her from falling on the floor.  When she was done, he helped her lay back down.  “You okay?”  He knew it was a dumb question because obviously she wasn’t okay.  “Sabrina, can I get you anything?”

“No.”  It was a simple answer.  He knew she didn’t want this help more than likely, but because she needed it, she wouldn’t ask him to leave.  “Did you get the medicine?” she asked groggily.

“Yes, but I don’t see how you can take it when you are vomiting.”

“I have a shot of the same medicine in the hall bathroom in the cabinet.  Could you get it?”

“Sure.”  Mark quickly looked for and found the shot and brought it back to Sabrina.  “Do you want me to give this to you?”

“I can’t do it myself,” she groaned her answer.

“Show me where.”  She moved the waistband of her running shorts and showed him the exact spot on her hip.

“Here.  It goes here.”  She didn’t open her eyes as he talked.  He held the waistband down and gave her the shot.

He leaned down and kissed her cheek for the second time that day.  “I’m sorry if that hurt.  I don’t give shots every day to beautiful young women.”  He laughed at how silly he sounded.  It was wasted on her as she drifted off into a more peaceful slumber.

He couldn’t bear to leave her alone and he didn’t want to.  He got her straightened up and pulled the soft sofa blanket over her.  He took the wretched garbage can full of vomit and rinsed it out well.  He even washed up some dishes that were in her sink.  He walked back into the living room and watched her sleep.  He let his mind consume him with their past and all the wonderful times they spent together.  She would moan occasionally and once or twice roll around in her sleep.  She lost the blanket after one such tossing session, in a feeble attempt at getting comfortable.  He crossed the short distance between them and pulled the blanket up around her chest and over one exposed shoulder.  Her tank top wasn’t helping keep her warm that was for sure.  He sat beside her head and ran his fingers through her hair and traced her face occasionally.  He watched as she smiled in her sleep and then she snuggled up to him, scooting herself so that her head was on his lap.  Her arm instinctively went around his waist and she sighed deeply.  He continued to play with her hair and now he had access to her back and rubbed it as well.  He must have sat there for over an hour, but then she looked up at him.  “How are you feeling?”  His voice was low and gentle.

“Tired, what are you doing here?”  She still sounded so sleepy.

“I couldn’t bear to leave you alone like this.  I wanted to stay and make sure you were okay.”

“Can I sleep some more?  Will you…stay?”

“Sure baby.  You go ahead and sleep.  I’ll be right here.  I won’t leave you…not ever again.”  He whispered the last part, thinking she didn’t hear it.  She had though.  She squeezed him a little tighter and his hand was on her back and neck again.  She loved the feeling and drifted off again.

“Thank you Markiss…”  He heard those three little words before she was completely asleep again.

Another hour passed until once again she shifted and she looked up at him.  He had his eyes closed, but was still lightly running his fingers through her hair.  She watched him and studied him carefully.  He had aged in the past year.  He looked older, more mature.  She saw his eyes flutter open and then they fell on her.  She didn’t have time to close her eyes or look away.

“Hey, you’re awake.  How do you feel?”  His voice was still that same soft voice.

“Like I was hit by a truck…a big one,” she smiled.  “Mark…why did you stay?”

“I couldn’t leave you and to be honest, I didn’t want to.  I still love you Bri.”

She was quiet for a few minutes; all the while he never took his hands off of her back.  He moved so he was running his fingers lightly up and down her arm.  She shivered under his touch.  “Mark?”  He waited, but she said nothing more.  He continued rubbing her arm and she closed her eyes.  “I can’t...”, she whispered, “I just can’t …I can’t get hurt like that again.”  She seemed to be saying it more to convince herself rather than him.  He was scared to say anything for fear he would have to leave and no longer be able to hold her.  “Mark?”

“Yes.”  He ran a finger across her face.  “What can I do for you?”

He was making this so hard for her.  She needed to thank him for taking care of her and send him on his way, but she closed her eyes and turned into his stomach even more than before.  She tightened her grip around his waist.

“Sabrina, are you okay?”

He barely heard what she was saying as she mumbled into him.  “I don’t want to want and need you.”  He gently turned her face towards him and she slowly opened her eyes.  “I shouldn’t let you do this…and be here.”

“It’s okay Bri.  I know you don’t want me, but I feel like I need you.  I…I do need you.  I need you terribly!”  He felt her body shiver again.  Her body then moved against her will.  She sat up and saw his head moving to meet hers.  His arms wrapped around her for support and he slowly moved.  She held her breath and closed her eyes.  She felt his lips seconds later.  Her walls came crumbling down, despite her fear.

Her body and mind were betraying her.  Before she knew it, she was laying on the couch and he was hovering over her.  “Will you hold me?”  Why was her mind agreeing to say these things?

“I’ll hold you all night, but…are you sure?”

“Yes…please!”  He gave her an out and she still was weak.  He kissed her neck and nibbled her ear while he shifted on the couch again.  His back was now to the back of the couch and he was spooning her.  “I’ve missed you.  I have never stopped loving you,” he whispered between sweet kisses he was planting on her neck.

“Please forgive me baby.  Give me a chance and I swear I’ll never break your heart again.”

Tears spilled down her cheeks and she silently cried.  She wasn’t supposed to need him, but her body was wanting more of him; all of him.  She needed him to make her complete.  “Did you…well…did you use protection with her?”

“I did.”

“What about the others?”  Mark looked truly shocked.

“There were no others Bri.  Jo was a huge mistake, leaving you was the biggest mistake I’ve ever made.”  He looked so sad.  He saw her shift and leaned down to kiss her.  She lets her weight fall against his arms and she nestles into the kiss.  “I have always loved you baby.  I was a fool but I need your forgiveness.”

“Hmmhmm.”

Mark stops’ kissing her neck and lifts up to look at her.  “Tell me Bri.  I need to hear you say it.”

She looks at him with wide eyes.  “I forgive you Mark.  I really forgive you.”

He smiles and gently kisses her again.  “I need you Bri.”  It wasn’t a lot that he said, but it was.

She searched her heart and realized that she wanted and needed him too.  “I need you too.  Now Mark…pleaaassseee?”  He wouldn’t make her beg.  He undressed her and then himself.  Once their clothes were in a heap on the floor, he kissed down her body.  He took his time and it was driving her crazy.  “Please…now.  I can’t….wait any longer.”

He couldn’t believe what he was hearing.  This had been how sex with her was.  She would beg him. It was shocking to him that earlier she had wanted nothing to do with him and now she was begging him to make love to her.

“Are you sure?”

“Yes,” she murmured.  “Please Markiss…please?”

He let his weight rest on her and kissed her deeply.  He tasted her and explored her mouth with his tongue.  She gave way to her feelings and did the same, exploring him as well.  A few minutes later, she let him fall between her legs.  He kissed her passionately and then slowly slid into her with a moan from them both.  She began to rock back and forth.  She was meeting him at each thrust.  He made their passion last.  They kept making love until Mark climaxed at the same time as her.  He rested himself against her as they caught their breath.  He was about to roll to the side of her, but she held on tightly to him.  “Please…no.”  He held her until she stopped shaking.  He rolled off of her and she relaxed her entire body.

“Are you okay,” he asked.

“Mmmhmm.”

“Tell me.”

“You are amazing.  Thank you…for that.”

“Thank you.  Are you okay with what just happened Baby?”

“I am.  I shouldn’t be, but I am.  You are like a drug that I’m addicted to.”  She kissed him and rolled away from him, but taking his arm with her so that he was holding her.  He held her and they both drifted off to sleep.

She woke up a little while later and he was still holding her snuggly.  His fingers were intertwined with hers.  She lightly rubbed his hand with her thumb.  He released her hand and placed it gently on her cheek and moved her head so he could see her better.  She shifted so she could see him completely.  He ran his finger over her lips and then kissed her softly.

“I love you.”

“I love you too,” she said but still sounded like a frightened young girl.  He dreamed of the day she wouldn’t say it like that anymore.
