72: are you a person who needs to note everything down or else you'll forget it?Fuck, yes. I have post it notes scattered everywhere on my desk at home and at work with months worth of stuff I have to remember to do, whether just the one time or ongoing. My computer has post its taped all over it with passwords (or vague password reminders), ( Read more... )

Ugh, stone in your windshield - I hate when that happens. But at least it's repaired now. But this are the kind of unplanned expenses which annoy.

We here have to repair these kinds of damage when it is in the driver's field of sight. And of course 90% of the time it is.

Continued good luck with mom and fullmoon_ficlet. I admit it sounds stressful already from the outside.

My chip happened on the passenger's side but if I'd let it go without having it filled I'm sure it would have spider webbed and been across the windshield by winter. Around here people get away with the WORST cracks and shatters with next to no consequences.

We own an autoglass shop in Ontario. Here you can put that chip through your insurance and the deductible is waived. Not sure if it is the same there?

Glass coverage is an additional policy that most people opt out of because rock chips are SO prevalent, it's not mandatory to get the glass replaced, and by the time we'd pay the deductible on the policy it's more cost effective to pay out of pocket. I've had two chips in my windshields in my three cars but I don't travel very much and rarely on the highway. For someone else who puts 10k+ kms on their vehicles a year they're likely to get at least one chip a year, if not more. People drive 'em till they're dead out here, LOL.

OMFG I can just imagine what your windshield looked like with that chip. One time a freaking pebble hit our windshield on the freeway and cracked it. We were like, WHAT JUST HAPPENED?! That was a fun expense XD

I wish I'd taken a picture of it before it got fixed because now it just looks like some dirt or a bug smear!

For a while BC had a deal where chips in the windshield were fixed free, but I'm not sure if they still have that or not. One of the nice things about living in the less snowy parts of Canada is that there is less rocks on the road from the sanding trucks. I used to live in Prince George for a couple of years and it was impossible to keep a clear windshield up there. Between all the gravel on the road and whatever was flying off of logging trucks, cracked windshield were inevitable.

Does your area use salt on the roads or even NEED to use it? Here they don't even though there's SO much ice build up between chinooks so there's SO MUCH GRAVEL. So you may save the body of your car from salt damage for a couple years but you'll smash into ALL THE THINGS always and ruin your glass.

Logic?

When it does snow here, they overdo it on the gravel, so whether we need it or not, they pour it on thick.
