I think I would be incredibly excited by this kind of exchange in a foreign country. Why do you think she assumed you spoke Japanese?

She had absolutely no reason to assume I spoke Japanese - and that kind of adds to the shine, since almost always I'm approached by people who just want to speak English to me. It was the first time something like that has really happened, and it was really awesome
