Norman and I drove across the country on our honeymoon, starting in New Jersey and ending up in California. We were talking about whether visiting a state counted if we'd only driven through it, and Norman said, "Well, with you in the car, we've at least stopped to pee in every state. I figure if you get out of the car in a state, it counts."
Somehow, I don't expect to see a "Which states have you peed in" meme anytime soon. :-)
I guess crossing the country together is a pre-requisite for marriage? J and I did too. We went by Amtrak and Via Rail (Canada). I only counted which states I actually put feet on the ground, as opposed to stopped in the airport (which would activate the "peed" rule, and this adds Minnesota) and I didn't count the states where I didn't get off the train (but might have had sex in, on the train) which would then get Oregon, Idaho, Alabama, Tennessee, Mississippi and Oklahoma. Also, all the south border Canadian provinces, and the Canadian Atlantic maritime's.

Well, I think with the "peed" meme, technically that would just swap Michigan for W. Virginia for me....
