I am thinking of going shoe shopping this week for walking sandals. I always go to Hanig's. Does anyone else buy European walking sandals? (Dansko, Wolky's, etc.) and where do you go? I usually buy one pair of sandals and wear them daily May 1-October 1...so they need to be "sturdy". Suggestions?

zappos. I order online, if they don't fit, I return them for free. They have a better selection of styles/sizes.

when I lived in Chicago I'd go to Williams (Evanston), Alamo Shoes (Andersonville and my favorite) and .... Hanigs Slipper Box if they were having a sale.

Normally I go for Rockports for sandals which are available lots of different places. You also might want to hit up City Soles on the corner of North and Damen.

I recently had a great experience with:

Salamander Shoes of Chicago
4740 N. Lincoln Avenue
Chicago, IL 60625
p: 773.784.SHOE or 773.784.7463 or Toll Free 1.800.333.0756

I was looking for Sanita shoes (formerly the manufacturer of Dansko's shoes) and I had trouble finding them elsewhere. Great customer service, knowledgeable staff, very competitive pricing, even when compared to online options.

I've found Hanig's to be outrageously expensive but people have told me that there are a couple of stores in Andersonville that are reasonable.

When do you plan on going? I'd like to tag along...
