But why is the plot gone...?

I did actually massively enjoy last night's outing to the cinema to sea Pirates of the Caribbean 4: On Stranger Tides, but that was mostly to do with being there with great chums (oh and the half bottle of rum secreted in my bag) and very little to do with the film ( Read more... )

Imagine, if you will, one of those scenes in the Faroe Islands, where the islanders capture and slay dozens of whales in an orgy of bloodshed. Then replace the whales with naked, panicking young women.

I now have a reason to watch this film, thanks Mark!

Clearly Disney did have the 4Chan demographic in mind when they included that scene in the film.

They're still about the only thing that made the fourth one watchable - their old married couple bickering was actually jolly good in places.

I'll stick with the Lego version on the PS3 I think :o)

Probably wise. I guarantee the Lego game is more fun (and I speak as someone who doesn't really like the Lego games very much).

Oh I love the Lego games. It's probably best that I never visit Lego World (or whatever the theme park is called), as I will run around smashing up bins, lamp-posts etc. :o)

Heh, I think they're already well protected against such an eventuality. :)

I quite enjoyed playing the original Star Wars trilogy Lego game, but the rest since then have all felt fairly samey, and I get bored with the lack of dialogue after a while.

I watched Frost / Nixon last night, and I think I won.

Am not too sure about going to see POTC$ on the big screen now, as nearly everyone says it doesn't measure up. Think I'll hold out for X Men :)

I really wouldn't bother with it at the cinema - there are no real wow factor effects like the kraken, and Blackbeard's ship, while nicely detailed, will probably look just as good on telly.

ON the advice of a friend, I just watched Nate and Hayes (1983) a fun 80s pirate romp which according to wikipedia performed so badly at the box office that there weren't any more pirate films made till PotC..

It was pretty good if you like 80s adventure romps (certainly not painful to watch although the sets are so simple they seem naive). Hauntingly familiar for some reason until I noticed the vast majority of the plot points, particularly the grand finale and the Liz and Will relationship, were blatantly copied in PotC 1.

You should download and watch it if you have a chance :)
