this friday was the sweetest time i've had in a long time. a night truly lived and all that jazz. first i went out to ann arbor to hang out a bit before the evening's ultimate objective of seeing a band play at a little dive bar in ypsi. grabbed din din at ahmos (gyro grinder yum!), played a bit of guitar and watched tv while doing some pre-drinking of the ketel one vodka variety (some johns hopkins sized shots for starters, then switching over to vodka & cranberry juice). headed out to the elbow room in ypsi around 10, and shifted gears over to the beer upon our arrival. one pit stop in the cramped bathroom and i figured out where they came up with the name for the place :) it was a pretty fun bar as far as bars go, playing all these clips of wacky shows from the 80s throughout the night. coolsville daddy-o. the first band of the night was kinda sucky, so the highlight of their set was when hideki was mistaken for a hispanic cause he was drinking a negra modello. hehe..greatly amusing :) around the start of the second band's (aleph 1) set, we descended down to a classy level, ordering rounds of PBR and high life. in general, aleph 1 was around a rating of "alright", but they had a sweet drummer that boosted them up into the "good" neck of the woods. the final band, and our reason for going, was called "my dear disco". they are described as psychedelic disco funk w/ bagpipes. sounds promising, right? i had heard a few songs before this show from their cd that hideki had, and they were good tunes but nothing special really. seeing them live was a totally different story. they were flippin AMAZING. between the dude on keys, the electric bagpipes, and the high octane girl who was absotively beautiful with a voice to match, it was one helluva show. i got up near the front, dancing and bouncing my way through their set with all the energy of a kid in the pit at a punk show. and i heard later that my boundless energetic enjoyment of the show infected a small pocket of people around me, which put a smile on my face :) after they wrapped up a long set, i went up to compliment them on an awesome show and was hit on by some gay guy which was kinda amusing. typical..yeesh. congratulated the singer and talked to the guy that played the pipes about their next show in the area (jan. 5th at the blind pig..i will be there), then headed out. at that point, i was wired from having had such a blast, grinning maniacally and bouncing about on the way to the car. heading back towards ann arbor, we decided that some hippie hash would hit the spot, so we headed over to the crowded fleetwood diner that's open late. after filling our stomachs and a wee bit o' witty banter with a cute waitress that may or may not be married, we drove back to hideki's and threw in kiss kiss bang bang since the hidekid hadn't seen it before. my brain & body finally shut down some time between 4 & 4:30am, and i had to give up and crash, but hideki made it all the way through the mooooovie(way to go!).
saturday was a monument to lethargy, making one trip out to tacobell for "breakfast" around noon, then going back to hideki's to watch the 6 or 7 hours of the tv show heroes, which i hadn't ever seen before. sweet! kinda makes me wish i could fly, but then who doesn't? headed home and watched a bit more, then wrapped up the evening with some guitar playing and reading a bit of world war z (a book written history-style, taking accounts from various people all over the world who survived a near global extinction from a massive zombie outbreak..neato burrito).
today i actually got a bit done, doing some laundry while watching the lions barely lose to dallas and organizing some stuff at my new place. oh, and i have a new place in case you hadn't heard. it's in a trailer park, which i'm still not sure if that's a step up or down, but hey, outta my dad's place and i think i'm gonna enjoy it. basically my sis just moved outta state and was living there, didn't have time to sell it, and my brother just got notice that he had to find a new place in 30 days but couldn't afford to pay for the lot rent solo. andy man to the rescue! we might be having a housewarming/my birthday party next weekend if we're settled in enough by then. and you're all invited! if we do have the party of course.
so yeah, what a weekend it was. especially friday. friday was rad. wellie well, back to work @ 6am tomorrow, so i gotta boogie. until next time, stay cool kiddies!
