Lightning Bug was his first Stay More novel, so it's a good starting point. Although the books can be read in any order. Latha Bourne's story starts there, and events in Lightning Bug are seen from other angles in the last novel, Enduring.

Don't start with Farther Along, his second-to-last book and not easily penetrable if you're new to his stylistic experiments. Lightning Bug (the fist), Butterfly Weed, With, The Pitcher Shower, and The Choiring of the Trees are good ones to hit first.
