Life with the Idiot Box

Yes, it's true, I'm becoming a little of a TV series junkie. It was noted a year or two ago when I wrote my post about favourite TV characters at that time but I'd argue that my TV watching has increased somewhat since then.

There are a few factors to this but mainly it's the day job/ Morrigan combination, making me work a lot of hours, combined ( Read more... )

I was wondering if American Horror Story was worth my time. I despise TV as a rule, but I am always willing to watch something really good.

The build up was great, it had some really disturbing scenes and there are many (good) directions the show can go in.

However, there is part of me that is really nervous that it is going to turn into something far from its promising beginnings and it might be better to see what I say a few episodes in.

Especially if you don't generally watch TV.

Oh I think 'Ringer' is quite good fun, even with the silly bits (70% of the show). I'm not sure I'll carry on with it but at the moment it's on the list.

And 'The Secret Circle' is on the list for the college kids. I didn't really have any intentions of carrying on with that.

'Fringe', 'Homeland' and 'Dexter' are my faves of the list!

Have to do this too quickly for any depth, but:

Really not watching that much. Love Fringe, tho it's more erratic than I could wish; love Weeds but haven't caught up on the new season yet.

Really mixed feelings about Homeland, not sure if I will watch. On the positive side, Claire Danes! One of the best actresses alive, normally I watch anything she's in. But... the name! Everytime I see someone refer to the US as "the Homeland" I have flashbacks to the worst post 9-11 days of Bush and have visions of KGB and Gestapo floating through my head. It's too intrinsically tied into our becoming a police state for me to get past. So, no matter how good it is, this one will be a hard sell for me.

Also want to try Ringer but haven't gotten around to it yet, and several of those others might get a try (and probably will give the latest season of true blood a shot at some point, it's not great and it's sometimes awful but also sometimes terrific fun)

I know what you mean about 'Homeland' in terms of context. I'm not so much involved in that over here and so it makes it 'easier' to watch.

I wouldn't rush with 'Ringer', as it's good but I don't think I'd recommend it as a must see.

And yes, with you on 'True Blood', I really disliked the third season and so avoided the fourth. Now I keep hearing about how great the fourth actually was...*sigh*
