Brief Introduction
GOT7 is a boy group under JYP Entertainment that consists of (surprise!) 7 members: JB, Mark, Jackson, Jr., Youngjae, Bambam, and Yugyeom. The group debuted on January 16, 2014 on M! Countdown with their single "Girls, Girls, Girls" and their debut mini, Got It?, was released on January 20.
2 years prior to GOT7's debut, leader JB and Jr. debuted under JJ Project with their single "Bounce". According to JB, JJ Project is not a sub-unit of GOT7 and will continue to release material in the future independently.
On October 22, 2014, they debuted in Japan with the release of their first Japanese single, "Around the World."
As of the November Gaon Physical Charts, GOT7 have sold 50,804+, 59,423+ and 51,244+ for their first two minis and first full-length album respectively. They performed at the end of year MBC and SBS Gayo Daejuns.
GOT7 Pre-debut
☆ JJ Project ☆
GOT7 members JB and Jr. both entered JYP as trainees after tying for first place in the 2009 JYP Open Auditions. They trained with Shownu (Son Hyunwoo), now a contestant in Starship's NoMercy survival battle, and were originally set to debut together as a trio. However Shownu left prior to JJ Project's debut in 2012. Before they officially debuted as boyband duo, JB and Jr. were both cast in Dream High 2 with JB taking a main role alongside actress Kang Sora, 2AM's Jinwoo, T-ara's Jiyeon, SISTAR's Hyorin and Ailee.
JJ Project debuted with "Bounce" on May 20th and started promotions on May 24th on M! Countdown alongside then rookies VIXX and EXO. Despite the duo's popularity from Dream High 2 and the MV reaching a million views in less than two days, JJ Project went on hiatus for the following year with few activities outside of the 2013 drama "When a Man Loves".
☆ YG v JYP ☆
In true YG tradition, which as of late involves more and more survival battles, the trainees of WIN were sent to battle against JYP's own set of trainees. Alongside their labelmate 5Live (that still have yet to debut u_____U), Mark, Jackson, Bambam, and Yugyeom made their first pre-debut appearance on September 6, 2013. All four of them competed in the dance battle while Mark and Jackson for the rap battle. With 6 out of 7 members revealed to the public, JYP announced GOT7's debut on December 24, 2013.
☆ Training Periods ☆
4 Years: JB and Jr. joined JYP in 2009 from the 5th open auditions and tied for first.
3 ½ Years: Mark and Bambam joined around the same time. Mark was scouted while still in school at LA.
2 ½ Years: Jackson and Yugyeom joined JYP in late 2011. Jackson was scouted in HK.
7 months: Youngjae was the last member of GOT7 to join JYP as a much needed vocalist. He applied to JYP and was accepted while attending an applied music academy.
