Hmm . . . on consulting a lyrics site, I may have based that interpretation on a mishearing. I'd taken the second line as "Hope you knew I could start something!" That sets up a scenario where she dumps him because he's a slacker, and he decides, "Okay then, I'll launch all the nukes in the world! That'll show her!" She's also the "you" of the chorus, who as the world blows up realizes she shouldn't have dumped him after all.

The lyrics site, however, has the second line as "hoping it would kick-start something"-- in which case, the speaker has apparently ended the world out of sheer ennui. Not an improvement!
