Before the election, I thought that Peter Thiel's support for Trump was just Silicon Valley "disruptive" thinking at its worst. If the system isn't working, let's try something different (without a lot of thought as to whether it's actually better.) Yep, New Zealand is one of them. Per https://www.newzealandnow.govt.nz/move-to-nz/new-zealand-visa/visas-to-invest/investor-visa

Minimum Investment NZ$ 10 million (approx US$ 8 million) has to be invested in New Zealand for 3 yrs.

Could he have met the three year residency requirement?

44 days in NZ in each of the last 2 years of a 3 year investment period.

A month-and-a-half each year for two years? That's not a very hard requirement to meet!

That's a residency visa, not full citizenship.
