The thing about the cost of war is that it actually increases defense spending which is very good for the economy, ESPECIALLY in a time when we're gong through a recession when technologies and other profits are down.
True, military spending like any government spending does provide economic stimulus. However, every dollar spent on basic scientific research yields a 10-fold return on investment in the form of new technologically advanced products including new drugs and potential cures for many diseases. On the other hand, guns and bullets get well, just blown up.
Much of the money being spent for Iraq will remain in Iraq - a country rich in oil wealth.
