[For the past almost two weeks, Katara has been struggling to regain her balance - even struggling to want to regain her balance. Aang's second return home hit her hard, on top of Zuko's mallynapping and Toph's return... Toph who doesn't remember. It's good to see her, but it's terrible as well. Now more of them are trapped in this horrible ( Read more... )

I've never seen a volcano tha's awake before.

[You did promise her a story way back when. This doesn't sound like the one, but it's pretty neat anyways.]

How did ya stop the lava?

[Katara grins. She somewhere in the back of her mind she remembers that she owes Sapphire a story, but things have been... bad.]

The volcano was huge! When it erupted, I'd never seen anything like it either. The lava flowed down as fast as an avalanche! There was nothing I could do to stop it - we thought the village was going to be destroyed for sure. But Aang wouldn't give up.

[Sapphire is listening avidly.]

Whoa...that kinda thing takes guts.

...I don't quite get the part about shapin' clouds. Why did ya have ta make a skull in the sky?

Because the village had a tradition of listening to their fortuneteller, Aunt Wu. Every year on a specific day, she'd go up and read the clouds to determine the future in that village. She had a book that said what all the different cloud formations made... and so in order to get the villagers to listen to us, we has to make the cloud formation for 'volcanic doom.'

[Sanji's actually never met Momo.

And so Katara's story is briefly forgotten in the face of her furry friend]

The hell was that? A monkey?

[Since the kunai Sokka made needed to be tested, Shikamaru actually happens to be in the area tonight. After an hour or two of practice he decides to head back a little early, hoping to catch one of the filial spirits on his way back.

It would be nice to you know. Meet Tsinku or Hyt or a spirit less female, but until then he can settle with the ones he's managed to talk to. Maybe he can find a way to get Sona less pissed off at him or something...

Either way - heading for your training spot at some point, Katara.]

[Assuming this is somewhat towards the end of Katara's routine, she's tired of running through the basics and not moving and has decided to see what else she can do without risking getting stuck in the ground.

So she has carefully assumed a steady stance and is currently shooting out a waterwhip towards branch some 20-30 feet away from her. There are still some leaves on the tree, and the aim of this particular practice session is to nip off each one - not in the leaf, but at the base. She's doing surprisingly well, considering.]

[He picks up on the sound of water moving and frowns. Not only is the river in the opposite direction, but there's something off about it's rhythm - or rather it's lack of one. Definitely not the river then. Maybe someone else is practicing with Sona today?

Curious, he tucks his hands into his pockets and closes in... and stops very still when he finds what he was looking for.

Somewhere in the back of his mind the reason for her interest in Itachi's elemental chakra clicks into place. The rest of him is busy trying to figure out the mechanics of having such control like that. Elemental chakra is raw and powerful; unless you're using it in meager ways, there's very little that is precise about it.

He spends a minute observing her and her movements. This... is different from that altogether. She's not using the water as a shinobi would in a jutsu - her movements and the water's response make it seem as if she's using it more as an extension of herself. It's vaguely reminiscent of Gaara's relationship with the sand.]

[Color him impressed, though you'd never know it from the casual tone of his voice when he calls out to her.]

Missed one. [Indicating a small brown leaf towards the end of the branch.]

Shaping the clouds? That's quite the feat~

[Oh, hello Michael.]

It wasn't that hard. Aang bent the air and I bent the water. We worked well together.

[That... hurts a little to say. Okay. Maybe more than a little. But it's a defining sort of pain.]

[He would say something about Aang's departure- it really was a shame, and he'd have liked to get to know the little guy better. Only Michael didn't want to go prodding an emotional sore-spot when she's still got enough physical ones.]

Still, with all the technology we had back home... It would be the easiest thing in the world to throw up a skull-shaped cloud on a colony ship's dome- but recreating it for real? Impossible.

It really wasn't that big of a deal. It took a little practice to get it right, but once we did it was just like anything else.

[And at this sound of his name one (1) lemur hurries on over to where the girl is holding the book. He stares up at Katara. Katara tilts the book so that the picture faces Momo.]
