[As if it wasn't bad enough that she'd been spending the day before doing one of her least favorite chores from back - dressing and tanning game - Luceti had decided to play a little trick on Katara and turn her wings blood red. And then the sun didn't rise - or when it did... solar eclipses weren't supposed to last this long. They'd planned ( Read more... )

[SHE'D BEEN TRYING NOT TO THINK ABOUT THE FACT THAT THEY TALK SINCE SOKKA BROUGHT IT HOME. THANKS A LOT.]

I hope not. Sokka says that they don't really talk much. And San doesn't seem to have a problem eating them, so...

[SO SHE IS TRYING NOT TO THINK ABOUT IT.]

[OOPS, SORRY KATARA!]

It probably wasn't. He wouldn't die that easily.

There's nothing wrong with eating them. Moro says it's okay as long as you only eat your fill and not anything more. San is just more used to this than we are. All the animals in her world are big and like to talk alot. [If Moro is any indication. Pretty sure he's heard her say she isn't the only god there at some point too, or atleast reference it maybe.]

I might know of few, if you want me to try to tell them. [Ye olde' calm voice indeed, but it's one of those "trying to calm other people down" sweet voices]

[Oh, Katara knows that tone of voice. Back home she's practically got the patent. And the only thing saving Heart from a bristling!Katara is that... well, she knows she kind of asked for it. And she is interested in hearing stories from other worlds. So instead Heart gets a wry and far more solid sounding response.]

Sure, if you feel like it.

Of course I do. I wouldn't have offered if I wasn't up to it, right?

[A pause there as she laughs lightly - shortly - at her own expense. Her tone keeps the same calm but perhaps drops the patronizing overtone... just a little. At least it cranked down. But now what stories does she even know...? She knows fairy tales and some ghost stories, but for tonight...]

Well... once in a land called Hawaii, there was a party coming up. All the little boys and girls in the village were preparing costumes for this party, because they knew that at the end of it there would be judging for the most original costume, the most colorful costume, and the best costume all around. The hero of our tale, Kawika, was a bright young boy who wanted to win one of those awards. All of his friends at school did too! But none of them would talk about what costume they were going to wear to the party, because they didn't want anyone to take their ideas.

Now.. [And here Heart pauses to take a breath before pressing on. It's a children's story, she knows, but somehow Katara seems much younger in her head than maybe she ought to be treating her.] I said that Kawika was a bright boy, didn't I? He decided to go to the party as one of the legendary old kings of Hawaii, King Kamehameha. To make such a grand costume, however, he needed help. He got his mother and his sister, Kamalani, to help with making the robe he would wear to represent the great king. They made it bright and regal looking, and decorated it with feathers ( ... )

[Hitsugaya's been out and about more often then he's been back at his apartment; there's just too many people in the community building and around the southern part of town right now and he feels a little more useful if he's actually doing something. That includes some patrols now and again. Katara's by now familiar presence brushes his senses and he turns in that direction. Hadn't seen her in a bit -- might as well see how she was faring.

Apparently, well enough to just stand there and stare at the sky. He stops, not too close, but close enough he can call out a soft greeting.]

Hey.

[If she looks at his usually white wings, she might find streaks of pale green tinting some of those feathers. He hasn't noticed yet; avoiding seeing your reflection will do that.]

[And if he looks at her normally shaded blue ones, he'll find that they now match the color of that blood red moon. Katara glances over her shoulder at him and offers Hitsugaya a small smile. She hadn't really seen him since the draft. Not that she was purposefully avoiding most people after coming back from war or anything - oh no, never that.]

Hey.

[He sees her wings, but decides not to comment -- it would just be a question she probably can't answer and he's had enough of those for the time being. He glances up at the moon, then back to her and gestures vaguely with his hand.]

No ice tonight, huh?

I don't always practice with ice.

[Vaguely defensive answer is vaguely defensive.]

[Sokka doesn't even want to look at the sky, yet he finds himself outside anyway, sitting on the edge of the porch with a small stick in hand. Being in the house just makes him feel even more sick. A red moon just makes him remember what it took to put things right last time and unfortunately anything he's tries isn't a sufficient distraction from the sky looming overhead. That sense of dread is lingering in the air all around, like things are just going to get worse before they get better ( ... )

[That cough is enough to catch her attention, and she glances over his way. Seeing him sit there with that look on his face is like a kick to the gut and Katara remembers - how desperately he'd tried to keep Yue safe, and how he'd respected her decision enough to let her go.

She hesitates a long moment before walking over and silently sitting next to him. There's comfort in the familiarity of his presence, and small as the comfort may be in light of what's facing them, Katara will take what she can get and hope that her own presence provides the same. At least they're in this together.]

[It helps, even if he doesn't show it. He's not sappy enough for that sort of thing, after all. He's just glad he wiped away that image before she walked over. Talking about it... is really not something he wants to do.

As for what to say? There isn't really anything. Saying that things will be better in the morning would be wishful thinking. More likely, it's going to get worse.]

[Katara doesn't keep track of how long they sit in silence. But when it starts to become awkward, she speaks - and there is a hint of her old conviction in her voice which would have otherwise made the words fall flat.]

We'll get through this.

Stories from when I was a kid? well..... [He grins.] If you like, I can tell you a bedtime story my father told me, and I used to tell my sister.

[She smiles a bit at that. A family story was obviously something special, if he told it to his sister. It makes her happy that he'd share it.] Yeah? All right, I'd like that.
