"A Single Man" and actors' accents in films

So, I just watched the movie A Single Man (on blu-ray).  It's quite an unusual film, but historically significant in a gay man's perceptions of 1962. There was also a lovely flashback to 1946.

What is funny is that there was a discussion in one of the groups in which I participate, about bad accents in movies (all brought on by "talk like a pirate ( Read more... )

Loved the book. Have yet to see the film. I understand it's a bit different. Julianne Moore's character was fat in the book. Hated that particular change, since in the original, she's sort of the typical fag-hag type, in the movie she has to be a fashion-plate because the director is a designer and those things matter to him, I suppose.

I do so love Colin Firth though, so I'll have to break down and see it eventually.

Glad you're still sticking with AMLS. Had the odd feeling that you hated it and opted not to comment on it.

Oh I definitely don't hate the book. It's not an easy read for me. Not because of the content but more because of the style. There are some parts I get swept up into and other parts where I have to force myself to plod along. I did enjoy the chapter "The Uses of a Map" very much.
