 I don't think I've ever personally known anyone who actually "came out" on National Coming Out Day, though I remember a few celebs doing it. For me, there was never a declaration to the world that I was gay, just sort of a gradual process of more and more people finding out about it. Maybe one day people will stop judging other people by labels, but it's still a long way off, I fear.

I've been swopping e-mails with a lovely 80 year old gay bloke in New York state. His great line about coming out (which he did in his late 40's) is "Those who matter don't mind and those who mind don't matter".
