I obtained a book yesterday in which the author makes a case for Christianity's social influences being the reason the Western world rose out of the Dark Ages with exciting new things like capitalism, science, logic, etc
( Read more... )
So what you're saying is that the Catholic church is the reason I'm poor? Because they encouraged intellectualism and that led directly to increased college enrollment, which watered down the value of an undergrad degree? Interesting ;-)
Both those books sound interesting though. I wonder if the young adult situation will improve any time soon. . . hopefully before I age out of that demographic :)
Oh, you're more of a success story than most, Carly :-p
Seriously, I don't imagine that the young adult situation is going to improve. A lot of it is due to the fact that unskilled manual labor isn't worth very much anymore. We used to have massive industries producing steel and finished goods and the like. Thanks to the fact that it's cheaper to buy from countries using slave labor, that job market's shrunk a lot. So you're stuck with very few options aside from working retail or getting a degree in knowledge-based work.
Damn that massive third world country that starts with a CH and ends in INA...They really do need to stop using the equivalent of slave labour. Anyway... this is me nodding my head in agreement (even if you cannot see my head).
Yeah... I've heard that too. Just having a college degree anymore doesn't impress, nor does it guarantee a job, either. Even higher education doesn't count for as much, its just like the 'regular' college before EVERYONE had to go... and even more unaffordable.
We hope to save up for our kids, so we can pay for their college. Both of us had most of college paid for, and were able to start married life debt-free. Because of that, we've managed to start saving already.
Of course, we'll see what the future holds for careers...
Good luck with your new classes :) Seems like you already read lots of intellectual stuff.... Not me! :-P
