This is part of why I think +/- 20% is just fine.

Couldn't you just up the dosage a little if it you feel it's not as effective?

I mean, there's always placebo to consider. There are certain drugs where, yes, you can up the dosage, but that brings up two other issues: a. you end up paying more for what you bargained for, and b. you run out of meds early (as I often do with my weak, generic Ambien). Some drugs you can't just "up the dosage" because they may have enteric coatings that intend for the drug to be time-released. This brings into question the idea of crushing tablets and such. If it's OK for you, that's fine. But of course, it depends on the severity of what you're trying to treat, how much money you have, and how knowledgeable you are about what you're taking. I'm happy with a brand name because I know what to expect, whereas if I get a generic, I may not even know which generic I'm going to be getting! To me, there are too many variables.
