I had the opposite problem: Folks disapproved of my choices for my SIL's bridal shower. Not only was I taken out the day before and bought a new dress (an "early birthday present" is how my stepmother passed it off, and I happen to love the dress), the bride's mother INSISTED I borrow a pair of her shoes, because, after discussion of what size I was, she determined that of COURSE we're the "same size." Except that we're not. I may be fat, but my shoes are TWO SIZES smaller than hers! And so I tripped over myself the entire shower. It was, otherwise, a perfectly lovely trip.
"Win lottery, invite Marlene to be fashion consultant for new wardrobe" is still on my agenda. You and your terrifying shoe-buying scariness. Wait. What?
