I've been watching two shows that have been on my back burner for years: Dexter and Deadwood. Adam and I have been watching Deadwood together, and it's pretty much 100% awesome 100% of the time. I'm watching Dexter on my own, and it has its definite weak points, but I've watched up to episode 7 now and it seems to be getting better. Parts of it are ( Read more... )

I would love to see a cross-over episode of Dexter and CSI Miami. I think the humorous potential would be overwhelming.

I absolutely loved the first episode of Deadwood; at the end when Swearengen is in bed and the prostitute puts the gun on the bedside table and climbs into bed with him and he has this look on his face that is absolutely perfect. I watched all of the first season, and after awhile it just sort of felt too much like the Sopranos, except as a western.

The first season of Dexter is definitely my favorite, I enjoyed how they illustrated the process of a sociopath trying to fit in. I have watched it, and while the show still has it's strengths, I find that it's weaknesses grow more pronounced and problematic over time. Without spoiling too much though, you are completely wrong about the premise.

Deadwood is fucking gold. Most literary show I've seen in a decade, no question. The word "cocksucker" never sounded so good.

What fascinated me most about Dexter was the spacious gap between the show and the novels.
I read the first two Dexter books and they were... AWFUL.
Almost unreadable. I could barely abide by the internal monologue droning on and on... it sounded like it came right out of a goth teenager's diary "I'm so dead inside. I don't feel anything. Killing makes it better."
EUGH.
To his credit I think Michael C. Hall did a relatively good job translating the character into something palpable.

As for deadwood, I finally picked up the whole series in a box set for like $60 a few months ago. AWESOME. The dialogue between Wu and Swearengen never fails to make my day.
"Yeah, okay so he took the dope Wu... but who the fuck was he?"
"WHITE... COCK... SUCKA!"
"glad I taught you that word."
