Things to avoid when writing a story. Part 1

Others have done it, I know. I still want to do it myself, because... well. Just because.

So here is my first "not to do"-list - it might get more posts as time goes by.

I agree with the unnecessary ambiguity - and pure awkwardness - of 'the other male.' Perhaps the writer thinks they are too repetitive, using names and 'he said' over and over. Of course, you can wind up way out in the tall grass. I read what was supposed to be a steamy Sam/Dean sex scene not long ago where the writer repeatedly referred to Dean as 'the older man' - "The older man took Sam in his arms," "The older man drew Sam down on the bed." Creepy ( ... )
